  1. Sure sounds like a dirty contact and/or bad ground. I hate electrical problems. Good luck and let us know how you are doing and what you find. I sure Kinarfi & Lenny will chime in, they are the real experts with this electrical stuff.

Rocmoc, your absolutely right as usual, Problem solved. What I did was to remove the horn thinking perhaps it was a horn problem. Well there are two wires that connect to then horn mounting bracket, one of which goes to ground and the other to the instruments. I initially did not connect the wires back up and that was the problem. Seems to me to be a funky way to ground the instrument cluster via a bolt holding the horn.

Thanks rocmoc and for those reading this thread FYI, and who would have thunk it!

  2. Well I have one of those frustrating electrical problems, All of my dash gauges stopped working. I had been working on the horn button, got it working (contacts just needed cleaning). Went for a short ride and noted that none of my dash gauges were working. The smaller gauges light up when I turn the key on but go out when the engine is started, I have checked all fuses in the two boxes and all are good. I am assuming that I am not getting any power to the dash gauges but am at a loss as where to look next. I am sure with all the expertise that we have on this forum that someone can point me in the right direction to solve this problem.

  3. Just made some changes to my T2 to make it more functional, (at least to me) I relocated the spare tire, moved the head lights, and lowered the roof rack. Hopefully the three photos that I attached will appear. OK photos are not being displayed, can some one PM me and explain how to get my photos on the post?

  4. PEARBLOSSOM! Wow, that brings back memories! I grew up just south of Pasadena, and my brothers and I used to camp at Camp Fenner/ Devils Punchbowl area. One of my favorite places to go!

DARN; I wish we could make it to the Jamboree; I'd be in the running for the 25 bucks for the longest distance traveled! :)

Yea, Camp Fenner & Devils Punch Bowl are just south of me about 4 miles. Camp Fenner now belongs to the state, it's a Cal Youth Authority.

Sorry you can't make it maybe I'll see you some other time.

  5. I havent been watching the weather for that part of the country but hope it will be good for the Jamboree. Planning on being there on the 22nd. Need to get to work getting the T2 ready, I have spent a lot of time building a ramp system for my F150 to carry the T2. Tried to load it yesterday but found that my 3K winch just did not do the job so rather than spend more time working on it I will just trailer the toy. The ramp system required putting some old used street tires on to reduce the width so that it would fit thru the tailgait, still a pretty tiite fitt so will have to make some mods.

Looking forward to checking out all the mods that you guys have done.

  6. Not sure if this is the place to post this information, but I found it quite useful.

I was trying to find some auto rims that fit the Joyner and came accross this site: http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/hot-rods-rat-rods/Wheel-Bolt-Pattern-Cross-Reference-Database.asp?LugCount=5&StudSpreadInch=4.5&StudSpreadMM

I was looking for rims with a 4/114MM or 4.5inch bolt patten, I found several wheels that would work. The site has other useful information.

Hope y'all find it as informative as I did.

  7. Cinda & George replaced one.

I have also been looking for a high/low beam bulb but can not find one. You can get a single filiment bulb and plug it into the high or low beam wire as there are three wires, high, low, and ground. By doing that, all you have is a driving light and not a head light.

I may get a new headlight can that will accept a H4 Bulb.

  8. We went out to North Glamis this past weekend to go see some old mines we had heard about. The controller did seem to give more power in all gears and as quig said did not seem to have to shift as much.It does use more gas as expected.I hope to get it out this coming weekend to do the comparisons as you suggested Lenny.

Stopped by Rick,s last Thur and picked up a controler. Took about 30 min to install, bigest problem that I had was figering out how to disconnect the oxygen sensors. The little blk tab needs to be lifted (not depressed) to disconnect. It starts fine and seems to run clean but as yet I have not taken it out.

I put a UMP air filter on and will post some Pic if some one can PM me and tell me how to do it.

  9. Does anyone have an aftermarket source for the T2 alternator, my friend has a 08 and it has gone belly up. Checked the forum search area and did not find any info. He took it to a auto parts store that checks alternator but they were unable to test it. I have the 09 model and have changed the fan belt because of a squeling noise but now wondering if it could be the alternator.

  10. Now that I'm just about back on the trail I'm thinking of upgrading my communication system. My current setup allows me to talk car to car, monitor my radar detector (when on the bike), and use my cell phone. I would like to have something similar that is more substantial. I'm looking at aviation gear but it's really expensive. I'd appreciate hearing what some of you are using. My setup now has to many wires, ear buds, PTT switch, etc.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

Gumball, I have recently put an amatuer radio, Yaesue FTM-10R, in my buggy. It is a great radio that has a waterproff detachable head, AM,FM, line in jack, and VHf & UHF. It is made for our application. Although it is a ham radio it can be modified to trans on the commercial bands. I just adapted a Rugged Radio headset w/mic (aviation quality) and PTT in the earmuff to the radio. Every thing is working good, talking to by buddies over 30 miles away on simplex,(no repeaters). Another option is a radio called Black Box which is VHF only and is imported with freqs 137MZ to 174MZ. A freind of mine, Bill McMaclay is selling those at [email protected] or 909 276 7004. I am a firm believer in radios, it has come in very useful on rides with my buddies.

  11. Here's the URL from my order. You should find what you are looking for there.

6000K HID Off Road Fog Lights Hummer/Land Rover/Jeep: eBay Motors (item 320527713273 end time May-12-10 14:26:13 PDT)

As to the use of a relay, I found so far that it's not necessary. HID lamps by their vary nature take a while to get up to full output. After the initial current surge they settle down. One of mine comes up a few seconds after the first one lights off.

With the lights mounted on the light bar you have the advantage of having them mounted higher than on the fenders. These lamps are so bright and the beam they throw is so focused they would be worthless as regular car lights.

    Gumball.

Gumball, Since you are just replacing two of the overhead lights, you are going through the relay that is already in the system. It is located in the fuse box in front of the passenger compartment.

  12. Feedback -

The light worked great on my short night ride. The only problem is the stock lights look really dim compared to the HIDs.

I'm looking forward to a better test on a upcoming night ride. I'm going to California for the Eastern Sierra ATV Jamboree where they should get a good workout.

At $106.00 for the pair I figured I couldn't go to far wrong. The color is great, 6000k, and having the ballast built in makes installation a snap. It was interesting to see the care Joyner took in providing good connectors. I put dielectric grease in the connectors and was good to go.

    Gumball

That's a very good price on the HIDs, where did you get them? I put two on my T2 but mounted them on the front down tubes. I wired them with their with a switch. Had problems at first with only one light coming on, then I realized that you must have a relay switch in line. Now all is well. I also replace the two head light bulbs (H-3) two wires for high and low beam 35/35W with a Hella 100W bulb. I can not find a manufacture that makes a H-3 bulb with two element. anyway I am just using the high beam side of the switch. Thinking about taking off the overhead lights, they just don't seem to be doing much.

  13. Rocmoc you really have modified the shock mounts. Mine are stock and I am using a Fox 980-99-003A W/8.5 remote reservoir , springs are Eibach springs: 0800.250.0550S (550 Lb) 800 mm free lengths (top)

Eibach springs 0800.250.0600S (600 Lb) 800 mm free lengths (bottom) At present I am using a 22" limiting strap but have ordered 22 1/2 which will just about max out the amount of extention. I had to reduce the compression stroke on the shaft by 2" I am very happy with this set up. I think that I have about 11 to 12 inch ow wheel travel now. I am limited by the axl hitting the top and bottom tubes on the swing arm.

  14. We will be traveling to So. Cal. in a couple of weeks and I am going into order / pickup my Fox Shocks with springs. I will take drawings of the geometry of the swing arms & mounts with the rear corner wieghts. Off-Road Warehouse's shock guy has a program he sticks the data in to help with the setup of the shock. I will post ALL of the info. I am only doing the rears at this time. Hopefully when I travel back in the fall I will be able to justify the fronts being purchased. Will have to remember I have moved the lower mount location so the complete setup will not be of value to everyone.

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

rocmoc, I put fox shocks on in Jan. They made a world of difference. Fox does not make anything that will be a replacement for the original ones. I got as close as I could get but still had to use limiting straps and also had to machine spacers to shorten the compression stroke so that the axle does not bind on the swing arm. Spings are 500 over 600 but I want to try 600 for both springs. The other thing I needed to do was to machine some steel bushings to take the slop out of the 14mm hole because fox uses a 1/2 bolt. I have been out with friend who have highly modified RZRs and am able to go toe to toe with then in the rough stuff. I might add that I also did the front and I am very happy with the entire package. I have been down to Off-Road warehouse and talked to those guys and found them to be very helpfull.

  15. Okay trying to bring this topic back to life and get everyones mind off the bad news we have heard as of late.I would like to make to this but need to know about how many days it will last and if the previous postings as to dates and place is final.I t would be great to meet all of you and will be looking forward to it.

    Thanks,

The Mojave is very beautiful in the spring and has "all of the above" as listed on the pole. Johnson Valley is a good area.

  16. moved post from parts sticky.

    ricksrb said,

Have any info on the fuel filter? went to purchase new one and went to three auto stores and none had a replacement with the large outlet side as the original has.

    Thanks

    rocmoc said,

When I replace mine I will go with a filter that has the same size as the small side on both sides and rig up a reducer/stepup for the large side. I have no idea why they would have such a large inlet with a smaller outlet. The outlet size will control the flow for the inlet as well.

    ricksrb said,

On mine the larger side is the outlet,it goes to the pump.I thought of the same as you but would have to go back up to the large hose to fit on the pump wouldnt I?

    Thanks,

    rocmoc said,

Yup you are correct, just went out and looked. THEN I would get std. fuel filter, replace the hose to the pump and step-up at the pump. Hopefully if the pump has to be replace the replacement would have a more std. size inlet. Have to remember my tank is the the front, not under the seat. My filter is under the center console towards the front. I have to upgrade the filler tube on mine so I have been thinking of replacing with a fuel cell. Then I would run hose all the way to the pump and places the filter just in front of the pump for easier access. Just another someday project!

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

The easy way to fix the problem is to put the fuel filter where the pump is and the pump next to the gas tank. Using brass fitting neck down the fuel inlet to the gas tank and then use 5/16 hose to a new carquest fuel filter # 86023 which has 5/16 at both ends. Maybe 30 min work
