New UTV owner

Recommended Posts

Hello all,  my name is Derek, just picked up an Landmaster UTV with a blown Subaru 653cc engine in it.  Hence I am learning all I can toward success in an upcoming engine rebuild and or replacement. Not a lot of information out there it seems. Hope I can be of help at some point.

Welcome to the forum!!

Do you know exactly what happened to the engine?

Ran low on oil? Threw a rod?

Hi Travis!  I think they ran it out of oil. Even though there is fresh oil in it now.  Has only 338 hours on it.   Mentioned a rod knock and-  that they kept using it. I bought it from a guy that works in construction.  Didn't get too hot at least.  It turned over, but makes clunk noises, when I get the side cover off,  the evidence will likely fall into my lap.  ;)   Paid $1500 for it, seemed like a deal for what we need it for.  Just hoping I can salvage what wasn't destroyed.  May swap in a Vanguard twin if I need to.  I have built many mower and ATV engines over the years, but never this setup.

Sounds like a good deal!

I would find out if there is a undersized rod, and specs for grinding the crankshaft, that *might* be cheaper than having to get a new rod and crankshaft, possibly.

      Hi All,
I am trying to source a replacement starter for my 2010 Hisun 800.  The part number on the starter is MX100709 800.  Is there any other manufacturer's (Honda, Polaris, Yamaha, etc.) starter that would be a suitable replacement?
      Thanks
      Kirk

A few pictures (so far) of the engine work - eventually I will share wiring info and other details (if anyone is interested?)  should anyone else ever need to swap an engine in one of these. The replacement engine is a Harbor freight $750 special 670cc,  (lawn mower/industrial type lump) with a few minor upgrades. Should have it back together soon, bolted in. The cold weather slows me down!

Has anyone done an engine & tranny swap on an 1100cc sand viper?

I am having shifter problems.  The gears are grinding and now it will not go into neutral.  Is it easier to adjust the cables from under the hood or under the bed?  Both are difficult to reach for an old woman.
