Rear Diff. blowup

While mine's apart, I've looked at a lot things in it and when I seat the ring gear in place, and turn the pinion gear, I do have some play and I can hear it slapping as I turn it back and forth.

I would look inside at my first chance.

And as far as I'm concerned, that little screw I mentioned earlier has as much potential to cause damage as the weak bolts.

Probably backlash. You will need to shim the ring gear towards the pinion. Most cars are .0005-.0007. You'll have to check with Joyner for specs on you rear-end. If these are coming with way too much backlash, THAT could be causing the ring gear bolt problem.

Been working on my rear diff and finally put it together, hopefully for the last time ever. I'm really pleased with the final assembly, the pinion play is very small, and the end play on axle shafts is very small also, I took the two snap rings off the pinion (.055 each) and replaced it with one (.094) from 6 States Distributor, who services big trucks and drive lines, which was about 50% thicker than stock which left room for some shims between the pinion head and the bearing, that's what tightened the pinion play up. Used Lenny's bolts to secure the ring gear, they worked nice, I put shims on each axle output shaft and made sure the screw holding the spider shaft was tight. Now all I need is to fill it with oil and install. After tearing the new one apart, I recommend anyone who has the aptitude do the same. On the one I have ready to install, I used the large side of the new case, the old half that has the locker on it, the old spider and ring and the new pinion and housing after shimming it. After much consideration, I have decided that the old housing with the missing little piece above the pinion bearing is still usable as is, the force on it is back toward the heavy metal area. Every thing else has been looked at and worked on and shimmed, so I should end up with an extra diff. We'll see after I do the front diff.

I sure hope Lenny comes through with his kit. We all really appreciate you taking the time to make other riders lifes easier and head-ache free! And at almost cost of the parts, I highly respect you.. now just hurry up! :P

The Kits are comming. already have suff ordered. I need to do mine first so I can do lots of pics and detailed instructions. Won't be long now.

Dismantled my brand new rear diff just to find the same problem. I installed my new diff kit which addresses stronger bolts, bolt loosening security, clearance shimming and pinion to ring gear alignment. Real happy with how it came out. Ran it hard this weekend and it felt solid, not so much slop in it. Today I pulled my front diff to check it out. Same problem, loose bolts that were ready to shear, (see pic below) even more so then the old rear diff bolts were. It also showed no signs of anyone ever trying to set it up for proper clearance or gear relationship. I have all the shims and new metric grade 12.9 bolts to put together the diff upgrade kits. All I'm waiting on now is to upgrade my front diff with the kit to see if anything varies from the rear. I'll be doing this tomorrow. I've taken lots of pics and yet need to do the instruction write-up and the kits will be ready. I'll post when anyone interested can order. It shouldn't be a week or so. It's my number one priority at this point.

This is one of the bolts I just took out of my front diff. Look at the head of the bolt flaired out from all the wallowing around. Makes me nerves to think, yesterday I was 20+ miles in from the truck with not a sole around.

Lenny ,how long did it take you to r&r diff and make update repairs ? Iam pondering wether to bring the trooper

home from the cabin and make repairs now or wait till fall I only have 250km and baby it

I would allow about 1.5 hours to remove a diff and about the same to put it back in. T he update takes about 4-5 hours per diff. This is taking your time and being patient to get it right, So you are looking at about a day per diff but you will feel good about it when done.

Shoot Rocmoc, a man of your caliber, you'll blow through this in half th time. Plus the instructions will be longer then what you will require.

      Hello,
Before I invest $10k+ into a brand new UTV for the farm, I want to get my feet wet with a fixer upper and learn the mechanical side of things. I acquired a 2022 Hisun Axis 500 (Lowes-specific model) from an auction for $500. It has only 200 hours and 120 miles on the engine. It looks like the previous owner used it for ranch work and didn't drive it on trails, deep water/mud, or anything too crazy.
While it runs and moves, it has some problems. It struggles to accelerate up any incline in high and low range and sometimes stalls when I let off of the throttle or change gears. When I apply throttle in neutral, it sounds like it is struggling for fuel/air and pops. When I decelerate, there is a grinding sound coming from the clutch, which I've read to be related to the one way bearing and is semi-common. The last thing I've observed is sometimes the speedometer display sometimes will show a much higher value for a few seconds after barely touching the throttle. Based on the documentation, if a problem is detected from the sensors, the instrument panel display should have an error code rendered on the screen in place of the time, but this isn't happening. Here is a video showing some of these issues (engine is exposed with console removed):

Here is another video of the clutches in action:

I've done some research, but information on this specific unit and sister units is limited. There does seem to be transmission and clutch issues reported. I still need to check into the head gaskets. I don't have the equipment to test compression right now, but I do plan on ordering what is needed soon. I do have an order in place for some cables to read the diagnostics from the computer. There is a shop two hours away from me that works on Hisun products, but I am hoping the problem can be identified and is something within my ability to handle. Below is what I've already investigated.  I am leaning towards the primary clutch needing replacement right now.
After getting it home and unloaded, I did the following maintenance/checks to it prior to operating it further:
Changed the engine/clutch oil (and filter) and gear oils using manufacture recommended viscosity Changed the air filter and checked for cracks in the air intake flow. Verified good suction. Cleaned the throttle body Changed the spark plug and verified the gap was within spec (0.6-0.7mm) Changed the coil and coil wire Changed the fuel lines, fuel injector, and verified the fuel pump was outputting the correct initial prime pressure for ignition and continuous pressure after ignition. Also completely emptied the fuel tank and made sure octane 91+ fuel is being used per manufacturer specs. Ran seafoam through system too. Cleaned the spark arrester and verified no cracks or gaps in the exhaust flow Changed out the O2 sensor Checked all wired connections to ensure they were secured and no breaks were visible Checked the belt for tightness and for any signs of wear and tear Verified 4WD and the differential lock function as expected - still hesitates and struggles uphill Verified the fan gears in the shifter are not corroded and working as expected ECU was reset after replacing sensors and fuel-related parts

      Thanks!

I have a DesertCross 800 that doesn't want to stay in low, it pops out when I let off the gas. No problem with the other gears. What do I need to do?  Thanks.

Does anyone out there have a rear differential for a trooper for sale?

I have a 2022 Hisun 750 Sector which comes with a locked rear differential. Was wondering if it would be possible to install an unlocking differential.  I see that there are some Hisun made machines that come with the unlocking rear diff, such as Cub Cadet Challenger, some of the Massimos, and probably others. My concern is whether these would be a direct bolt on, using the original axles, drive shaft, and of course matching gear ratio. I've tried to match up part numbers but it seems every brand has their own number system even for parts that I know are identical. If anyone has ever done this swap or has any information about the whether these unlocking rear diffs are comparable to the Sector, I'd appreciate your input.
