  1. Haven't been on this forum in quite a while - I loitered quite a bit when I was looking into purchasing a Joyner, but went a different direction.

In any case, I was recently out at the Coke Ovens, as well, and had an absolute blast. Great trip - well worth getting out there. I posted about my trip out there on a website I keep for sharing these trips with friends & family that can't get out with me: http://tomcarfun.com/Coke_Ovens.php

I didn't make it to Martinez Cabin - but I plan on getting back out there soon for that leg. I headed Right towards to the Coke Ovens, after passing through Box Canyon. Next time, I'll head left, towards the cabin/mines.

Lots to see out in that area! Many, many trails, and lots of interesting sites to visit.

Yep, that was a fun and exhausting day! We did the Martinez Cabin and then the Coke Ovens- the Joyner crawled over everything but the manual steering and suspension really beat the snot out of me. My buddy rode his Raptor quad and I drove the Joyner with his son as my co-pilot. We left Vail (southeast of Tucson) about 7am, took the Florence highway to turn off after the bridge right after the AZ State Prison. Did the Box Canyon, Martinez Cabin, hit McDonalds in Florence and were home by 11:45pm-long day.

My buddy got hung up trying to climb the rock steps on a very steep rock hill climb coming back from the Coke Ovens and I had to park the Joyner, get out and help him up the hill. Tough trip on a 2 wheel drive sport quad! Lots of steep rock climbs/descents and off-camber situations and loose rock.

I wouldn't do that again in one day. Next time it's one or the other!

  2. Do a Google search for - Coke ovens Superstition Mountains Florence, AZ, Martinez Canyon Superstition Mountains, Martinez Cabin Superstition Mountains.

The coke ovens were used by miners to burn Mesquite wood for days and make a type of charcoal called coke. It was said that it burned much hotter and was used in their smelting process.

(this one is the sandy wash trails leading up into the canyon-sorry for the lame rap music)

This is a GREAT trip! I was cussing the manual steering towards the end of the day though! Some of the most beautiful AZ scenery- and you are a loooong way from help so make sure you have someone with you and are prepared. I did not have the Joyner 2 weeks when my buddy and I took this trip. Plan on a portion of the day to do the MartinezBox Canyon and the Coke ovens

  3. Behind the drivers seat, 4 bolts to get the cover off, 2 bolts to remove the holder, then to uunplug it you have to pull the square handled plastic piece out about a full inch which is a ramped closer and pulling it unseats the plug, pull the gasket and put some silicone spark plug boot release on it. When you open it, follow static electricity prevention, hope you know what I'm referring to. While you in there you may want to follow and pull the pin 70 blue wire out.

What does pulling the pin 70 do? Is it easy to see how I need to reseal this ECU with silicone-just go around the mounting area with silicone and same for the plug?

  4. Hello & welcome Bob,

Bill at Audio 2000 on Speedway 1/2 a block East of Swan on the South side was the Dealer. Last time I stopped in he has no Joyners. If I had to guess he will not unless favorable support comes out of JMC and I don't think that is going to happen. I think it was becoming more trouble than it was worth to him. He was already a buggy guy with Toys so did not need Joyner. You will have to come south of Tucson for some riding in the Santa Ritas.

    rocmoc n AZ/Baja

That's where we live, near Wentworth and Sahuarita, how about you? We take the Joyner into the Santa Ritas often-it's out my backyard basically, we just head up Copper Cut.

  5. I have the same problem. My dealer in Tucson backed way off. Maybe with the new toys arriving in Aug he will step back up. I will update in Aug.

I live in Tucson and just bought an 08 Trooper 2 back in May, about the time everything fell apart with the dealers. Who was the dealer in Tucson and do they not have plans of carrying the Joyner line again?

    thx

  6. I've had a few problem with my CVs because they pulled apart due to the circlip coming off, If all you had was a ripped boot, I suggest you pull it apart and clean it real good and see if any thing is missing or cracked inside, I have one that lost one of it's balls,:o(no comments allowed, boys) !!! If you find any thing during cleaning and inspection, let me know and if I have it, I'll send it to you.

Another thing I thought was interesting is when I pulled the axle from the diff, I expected it to pull out of the inside of the diff, have some gear lube poor out,etc..When I pulled the shaft, it had female splines on the diff end of the axle shaft and there is a splined shaft sticking out of the diff. I talked to Silverbullet Motorsports in Yuma, he said some of the diffs are set up that way. So, no circlip on the end of the shaft to slip into the diff-it just slides over the shaft sticking out of the diff.

  7. I'm pretty sure Jarrad from No Limits said something about securing a whole lot of Trooper axle parts from T.J USA when they had a fire sale with all their spare parts. Drop him a email first at: [email protected]

    Cheers Mike.

Thx Mike. I emailed Jarrad and he doesn't have any axles right now. I spoke to the guys at JMC and they are waiting on containers of parts that are on their way from China. Since the joint was clicking I am assuming that the joint is bad. I didn't notice anything was wrong, we had been out in water, sand, dirt for about 7 hrs of rock crawling through some canyons in the Superstitions mtns here about a week before so I'm thinking a lot of crud worked it's way into the joint. I was about 20 miles from home when I heard the clicking and drove it home-only clicks I think when I turn left.

    thx

It was clicking pretty bad and so based on what I've seen on CV halfshafts from cars, once the clicking sound starts, it' toast. But if you think I could cut the boot off, clean it and pack it with grease I might give it a try. What do you think?

    thx

  9. I was wondering if anybody had a rt front axle for a 2008 Trooper 2? One of the cv joints is toast, it's clicking pretty bad. I can't find anyone that has one-JMC has one on order for me and it will be here once they get their containers but I wanna ride now!. I'll just buy the other one from JMC when it comes in and have it as a spare. It seems to turn sharper to the right than to the left so maybe it got over-extended.I'm still baffled as to why it ripped the boot with only 3200km on the clock, it's an 08' and you would figure it would hold up longer than that-It was a pretty severe trail we were on about 6 hours +in and out, Martinez Cabin and the Coke ovens in Florence,AZ-highly recommend this trip. Anyhow, would appreciate any help on locating an axle. I would really like to find out if Joyner sources these axles from some other type of vehicle that we could cross-ref? I can't find anything on that but maybe Joyner has these custom made for their particular application.
