  1. Does anyone know the length of the splines on the front driveshaft?

Why? I would like to move my front diff forward some & I don't want to run out of driveshaft. I lowered my front diff to increase my droop and to hopefully fit 8.5 inch shocks under the hood without needing limiting straps. After lowering my front diff and cycling the suspension I got a lot of bind due to the fact that as the suspension cycles lower & lower, the front CV's move forward also. This compound angle causes the CV boots to bind badly (once I welded in the diff I was probably a 1/4 inch aft of factory placement). So, I realized if I want to maximize my droop I will need to probaly move the front diff at least 1 inch to 1.5 inches forward of factory placement.

I am not sure how Lenny achieved 14.5 inches of travel in the front suspension. When done, I will be lucky to get 12. With 30 inch tires, the top of my tire is able to reach about 1/4 inch past the tube to which the front fender bolts to. I am limited anymore by the ball joints. So, down travel is all I have left to be able to achieve over 12 inches of travel and like I said, my CV boots bind at about 11 to 12 inches due to the compound angle of the shaft.

Now, everybody scoffed at the price of the Gorilla Axles, but I am calling them today to see what they can do for me. I estimate my axles bind at about 27 degrees. Crawlin T2 said the Gorilla Axles will do 40 degrees. Add in I will be able to turn sharper as well and....

Please don't forget to answer my driveshaft question if you know the answer.

    Thanks,

    Paul

P.S. I am taking pictures as I go.

I spoke with Kris and he thinks there is at least 2" of extra spline in the front driveshaft.

  2. Does anyone know where I can get rear drive shaft u joints for a Joyner Commando? Alternative u joints that will work? Also how do you remove the rear drive shaft yoke on the commando? New owner with lots of questions and no network of owners or dealers in Tennessee for support.

To remove the drive shaft you'll need a slide hammer.

Also, a universal joint from a 1978 Datsun 280Z should work.

    2439608780104110397tVpVTo_th.jpgguess I'll just go with standard torque values 6 ft/lb or 72 in/lb

Every thing seems to be going well, think I bent my dip stick tube bracket at the top, doesn't want to align with the hole and doesn't look exactly like some of the photos I took, I like that method of photoing every thing before you tear it apart, beats the crap out memories, especially in old folk :)

According to Kris, 5 ft lbs would do it.

    Thanks.

  4. OK Garth here it comes, you ask for it. What will the bell housing of the Chery 1100cc fit other than the Chery engine? I have hear it is VW. We want more raw hp, not the bolt-on / add-on stuff. What engine will button up to the Trooper trans? Where does the design for the diffs come from? Arctic Cat? The Chinese rarely reinvent something that already exist. What diff did they copy?

    Rocmoc.

Here is what Kris has to say on the subject.

    "Hey Garth

This is a misconception with the 1100 Chery. It's the 1600 Chery trans that has the same bolt pattern as the jetta, but there is a problem with this. While the trans will bolt up to VW, it will not work with how the clutch is designed. The Differentials are Joyner designed only, its not a copy of any sort."

I have forwarded your question to Kris.

    Thank you.

  6. Garth why don't you give us a little of yours and kris's background in Joyner

    Thanks Jarred.

I worked for TJUSA as an account manager/rep. I was sent to SC to open the distribution center in Charleston.

I've been involved in off-roading since I was a kid, racing and riding sleds, motorcycles, quads, buggies, and pretty much anything with a motor.

And, I've also been wrenching on all my own vehicles for 40+ years.

I will be heading up the west coast distribution center for Joyner starting next month.

Kris Abel has been with Joyner since 2003.

It's safe to say that Kris probably knows more about the Joyner product than anyone else on the planet.

Once again, please feel free to ask any tech questions.

    Thanks,

    Garth
