  1. Planning a trip back up to Soapstone Basin this weekend, anyone interested?, I'll be staying for 2 or 3 days, but, being as it is Labor Day week end, I may not get the spot I want, so if you want to know where I'm camped, go HERE and find the "I'm Ok" post and click on it to see where I am at.

yes I an interested will have to see how the weekend goes. Call me before you leave and we can work out some sort of plan :)

  2. Hey everyone. I got some questions any tricks out there for cheap suspension improvements on the trooper I know the factory tires suck and Im working on that. My shocks are set from the dealer setting.

My next question is has any one heard of the Roketa buggies specific the 800cc. My brother is looking to buy one I tried talking him into the troopers but its a little pricy for him. I dont want him to buy a piece of junk anythoughts or comments would help.

Any one using the fuel programmers from silver bullet motorsports I have one in my trooper no mods done except snorkle, and NGK plugs and synthetic oil. I have left my programmer at the factory setting thats what they said to do at silver bullets. So far I am happy but just wondering what any one else is doing. Thanx

You probably want to post in the Joyner section of this board. That is where everyone hangs out and you will actually get an answer to your questions.

  3. #1- Bought Trooper

    Then:

-Drilled and tapped ball joints to 1/2 inch bolts

-Front and Rear Diff upgrades from Lenny with Kinarfi's Help

    -K&N Filter

-Snorkeled filter with 2" ABS pipe/fittings to behind driver's head (Kind of cool you can hear it gulping air when it needs it)

    -waterproofed my ECU box

-Steering Box Kit from Lenny (good thing as only 3 of the 6 bolts holding the top on were even still there)

-put on sport bike muffler so I can tell it apart from Kinarfi's Harley :)

    -Mirrors

-Had rear cage red-done and rear seat put in so we could bring the midget along for rides (idea thanks to 2scoops "chopped liver")

-disassembled and sanded rear cage to bare metal and then coated with POR 15 and overcoat (hope this lasts well) and then re-installed

-replaced stock fuel pump as it was sticking and mounted Trick Flow EFI pump and new lines and filter

    Then:

    -Lost my Key

    Then:

-installed toggle for ignition/accessories and push button start--never have to remember to bring my Key again :)

Oh yeah, actually have gotten a couple rides in between all the work!!!

I need to figure out how to post and link to pictures like some of you do so I can put pictures up of all my mods for all to see.

Thanks to all of you for the advice, ideas, Kits (Lenny), help (kinarfi), and general camaraderie. Hope to get lots more enjoyment out of it!

  4. Casey from JMC referred me to a guy named Chris who has done some work on joyner differentials. He is checking through things (Junk box) to see if he has one...said he very well may have one and would get back to me. Will keep you posted.

    Jeff

Can you PM me his number?

    Thanks,

  5. I tried contacting him over the weekend via email for something else but has not responded. If you get a response, let me know and I will do the same for you.

    ROCMOC,

I got a message back wihting a couple of hours today from the "jefferyphx" guy with all the bits and pieces...don't know if you ever heard back from him regarding your inquiry but seemed to respond fast to me...unfortunately did not have one of the washers I need or at least he doesn't know if he does as it does not have a part number.

This is what I used. It is a trick flow EFI pump with 85 PSI and was $85. Nothing special, most any inline pump with enough pressure should work, but got this one as it was 5/16 line in and out. Ran new line from the tank through a new filter and then to regulator. Didn't touch anything from the regulator forward. Haven't driven it much but seems to be working just fine.

  7. Swapped out the old Chinese junk for some new. New pump, lines, filter. Spent about $100 for the whole shabang and works like a charm still at 50 PSI like before. The old pump was just sticking. It is welded together so not serviceable. Cant have a sticking pump when you are miles from nowhere!

  8. Just so everyone can feel safe, I got Lenny's steering kit in a couple of days ago and seems like it will hellp A LOT! But I was confused with the first part of the instructions....It said to remove the 6 allen head screws for the stock steering box cover. When I went to do this I found mine only had 3 screws (remaining) and they were only HAND TIGHT....AGHHHHHH :o . I was about two bumps removed from turning the wheel left and careening straight over the side of a mountain! No wonder it was making some noise

Will keep a little closer eye on things like that in the future.

  9. When Kinarfi and I took apart my front differential, we found one of the washers that slip behind the spider gears was missing (there were only 3 installed from the factory--guess it was lunch time when it can to install #4). I was wondering if any of you out there who have spare parts or have had to tear theirs apart may have an extra one of these washers I could buy off of you. This is the spherical or curved washer and one is supposed to sit behind each of the 4 spider gears and acts like a bearing/bushing between the spider gear and the cone they sit in.

Kinarfi and I have been trying to find one that would work from a driveline shop, but not having much luck so thought I would throw it out to you all. I do have the dimensions if you are not sure if you have the right one. Thanks for looking and let me know if you find one you would be willing to part with or if you have other ideas on where I might find one (silverbullet didn't have one).

  10. Ah HAAAA.....I have figured out the error of my ways. I was looking at the manual and the photos for setting the fuel pressur and I have been looking at the big number (kgf/m2) so was seeing just below 4 which is the correct setting. We are all talking PSI wich is the small numbers on the stock gauge, so it really is at about 50 or so. This makes me feel so much better. Sometimes I just need one of those moments where it all makes sense...too bad they are few and far between :rolleyes: . Now I will feel much better about finding a suitable pump.

Since I am not at home to look, anyone know what size fuel line they have on the trooper so I can get the right fittings and will probably replace the hose for caution sake while I am at it?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

  11. No, a low pressure pump will not work. Your Trooper engine requires 45 to 55 pounds pressure. If you get a pump that is used for fuel injection you should be fine. I don't think size will be a problen as most you will find are from larger engines.

Ps, thanks for your order, I'll get it out tomorrow.

    Lenny

No Lenny seriously thanks for all you do for our troopers and us!

For the pump issues, I am confused why the gauge is a low pressure gauge showing only 6ish psi going to the injectors. I would think the 45 Psi for an injected engine seems more common but why limit it down to 6psi then?

  12. So rather than having to get out and bang on the fuel pump every time I stop and it sticks, can I just replace with something like a holley fuel pump? These are only about $85 where as I see on silverbullets site they have pumps from $145 to $185.. Is there a certain flow rate and pressure that needs to be maintained and if so what is this? I know the FI and carb pumps are different, but typically FI pumps run much higher pressures where as the Joyners run low pressure--like carburated engines around 6-8 PSI right? So could I just use a pump for a carburated engine and be just fine with this? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, I just don't want to spend money that I won't work out when I can ask the folks on here.

  13. So riding on vacation in Montana this week. Was out and parked on about a 10 degree incline and shut off the machine. Got back in about 5-10 minutes later and wouldn't start (Turned over but no start). Spent a few anxious minutes with the family wondering if we were walking or not. I noticed I had no fuel pressure and so I unplugged the fan and cycled on the key. Just a couple clicks from the pump. So went to undo the lines and realized I left all my tools at the house so had only my pocket knife and the spanner wrench for the shocks. So making the most of the situation I banged on the fuel pump to see if I could knock it loose (AKA beat it into submission). I cycled the key on again and Wala...fuel pump on and pressure...fired right up. Did it one more time today (separate trip parked in similar position). Quick bang on the pump and back in business in less than a minute this time.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had their pump stick. Could this be due to bad gas from being parked for a long time before I bought it or some other issue? Is it servicable/cleanable or heck, at this stage I may replace it with a holley pump or similar electric pump that I can count on and consider it one more Chinese piece of crap I don't have to depend on when I am out riding.

    Any thoughts or comments???

  14. Update from Montana. I have had the trooper out for a couple of rides, nothing much challenging, but some rough rocky dirt roads at around 20 mph. The really harsh metal to metal noise appears to be mostly gone. I think charging the shocks really made an improvement. There is still a lot of creaks and bangs though, most of which I can easily tolerate. There is still some pretty harsh stuff from the left front and haven't been able to tell if it is in the dash or if it is coming from the steering, but am planning to do the steering box mod anyway.

It does ride pretty rough on the OEM tires and shocks/springs and am hoping this will convince the wife to let me look into some aftermarket shocks/springs maybe like those being mentioned on the board here. Also think some better tires will help in this dept as well.

I have gone up a few pretty steep and loose hills. I really am impressed with the power and climbing ability. Just seems to run right up anything I have thrown at it so far. Nice to get some rides in :)

Thanks for everyone's suggestions so far and LOTS more questions to come I am sure as I keep working on it.

  15. And after spraying it around your campground open your mouth and give it one quick squirt. That does the opposite of keeping the bugs away, other people will come near you.(LOL)

Rick...it depends on when your last bath was..haha

  16. Just thought of something. I wonder if the noise could be coming from the ball joints? Could it be making this sound if I ground out too much out of the ball joint when drilling and tapping for the 1/2 in bolts? I tried drilling trough them while they were in place but it was very difficult, as was tapping it that way, so I ended up grinding them until I could get the 1/2 in bolts through. If there was a little slop in them could this be moving and causing the slamming noise? I never took it out prior to doing the ball joint job as everyone on here said it was dangerous so don't know if it made this noise before I started futzing with it. Just thinking of things that could be "going bump in the night"! Again appreciate everyone's advice and thoughts.

I'm off to Big Sky Montana for vacation for the rest of the week leaving Tuesday AM and back Sunday. Will see what I can find to ride around that area and let everyone know how the trooper does with charged up shocks and how the riding in the area is.

    Jeff

  17. OK. Got Edge motorsports south of Draper, UT to fill up all four shocks to about 175 PSI with nitrogen. Should be good to go on those. They actually did it for free!! Very nice guys there. They mentioned that if there is air in the oil it can make noises like what I am describing, but is seems like this was much more a metal to metal type noise. Will see how these work and then go from there. Maybe and excuse for aftermarket shocks??? :)
