Do you remember what direction is the correct direction for the starter or engine to spin? My starter is spinning clockwise if I'm looking straight at the gear.

I have Massimo 400, the starter spins but does not turn over the engine. I thought one way bearing was bad where the gear is on the crankshaft, but it spins free clockwise and engages counter clockwise. Is that the correct way? Is it possible my starter is spinning it backwards for some reason?
