  1. I've got the 650 Spider, the one with the two cylinder engine and side draft carb. The right plug was cold/not firing, so I changed the plugs out (thanks Silverbullet for the plug type, and this forum for how to do it) and then tackled the intake. When I pulled the air filter tube off, there was standing gas in the carb inlet. Because of what I found, I took off the carb top, cleaned the needle and seat, although they looked fine, and put it back together. I started it up and it ran great. BUT.... if i wanted to change the needle and seat, say to a Viton setup vs. the solid needle, where would I look? Do any Japanese bikes or quads fit? I found the oil filter is the same threads as my 91 Nissan 2.4L pickup, so other parts might cross as well. One issue i can see is that carbs have not been used on cars in the US since about 86.

  2. I had the Chinese car air cleaner setup - a little round car air filter with a bunch of blocked off hoses, and both the crankcase and transmission hoses run to the unfiltered side, so today i messed around with it a bit. I got a 2"ID silicone hose to mate to the carb neck, and ran it to a 2.5" to 2" exhaust reducer, then to a 2.5" 90* sweep and to a Uni Filter 2.5 x 6 filter. I put little breather filters on both the crankcase and the trans, and zip-tied them to the cage. Less than $100 bucks, and a real air filter to use in the dunes and dez. Might even enhance performance!

  3. I don't have the four cylinder, I have the two cylinder. The pipes are OK from the head, as far as i can tell, but the collector looks like booger welds, as does the turnout to the muffler. I'd like to start fresh, it is easier to get clean welds on fresh metal. The tubes are long enough for good torque, I just want to get a clean exit.

  4. What was this topic about? Did it get hijacked, or is it about toy haulers? I'm thinking "toy hauler" is a trailer that i use to take my toys to the dez or dunes. We built one last year, and love it. 26 foot American Freedom cargo trailer that I insulated, lined, and put lights in.

    What was the question?

  5. I'm looking at building a full-flow header with a cleaner collector than the one that came stock. I haven't done the math yet, but the tubes look like they are too long before they hit the collector, and they are rather poorly made. I'd like to find a flange for the header that i can use to build a header and good collector/tailpipe. Is there a good header made, or a header flange? I have the 650 two cylinder.

  6. I've been searching for info on my 650 Sand Spider, the two cylinder model, but can't seem to find much. I figured out a crossover oil filter, put in 8.8mm plug wires, a new Accel coil, and am working on a snorkel to get the air filter out of the sand, but would like to figure out which spark plugs i should get. They are a pain to reach, and I'd like to figure out which socket to put in there before I go screwing it all up.

The reason I'm doing all this is that the right hand cylinder is misfiring. It will fire, and it runs great, then it won't. When it is misfiring, the pipe is cool (for a running motor), and the motor sounds awful. It's very down on power, although it still runs. I found the right hand plug wire broken, and when i swapped wires it started working again, but then it quit next time i started it. The carb seems clean after i pulled the float bowl apart, and since it is one barrel, both cylinders should be affected the same. It doesn't seem like an internal hardware problem since it turns on and off again, and I've changed everything but the plugs.

  7. I'm looking into buying used motorhome, maybe come down ride with you guys,, maybe next winter? Don't think will make it in time this yr. Going to do some camping, riding, just get away this spring & summer. Then come south for maybe some time in the winter? Park on your yard,, lol,, can't wait!!

You can park in my front yard if you can park in my front yard LOL. I live on the side of a wash, it's kinda steep. We've had friends stay overnight in RV's at the bottom of the hill before, but there's not much room for a trailer.

  8. Welcome huunz,

What kind of Joyner do you have? I also have a place in Havasu,If you would like to hook up for a ride let me know.I will be there for New Years and the following weekend with rocmoc.

    Hi Rick,

I got my wife a 650 Sand Spider buggy. For NYE we'll be at Calico, seeing if my Jeep will hold together for the runs. I don't know if she plans to bring it to Havasu, although the Desert Bar run would be fun. I'd like to get it the street legal registration in Havasu, but haven't gotten all the required paperwork done. The notarization is a killer.
