Tracker 800sx starter replacement

Was told the cover has to be removed and to get it off the drive belt and pulleys had to come off as well. Took it a local repair shop and they indicated it most likely was not the starter but a starter clutch or gear. Have not had a chance to pick it up yet but will advise outcome when I do. -
