Signed up today, anxious for help with Cub Challenger

Recommended Posts

i have a Challenger 700 2017 bought new.  I would say we have around 50 - 60 hours on it.  It sits on my property in the mountains most of the  time.  Recently it began to die after about 15 minutes of idle/running.  It blew the fuse "F5" which I have been unable to figure out why.  I have replaced multiple electronic components with the same result, including the fuse box.  I contacted Cub, the service centers are very few and far between in Colorado so after 2 weeks in the shop, the tech could not isolate the problem.   Any IDEAS out there.

Thanks

Dave

Any idea what the "F5" fuse is for? Whats the amperage rating?

If it dies after about 15 minutes. Does that mean that it'll die in around 2 minutes, or so, if you park it after 12 minutes, and let it idle for 2?

Not trying to be funny. Just trying to understand if it's related to electrical load, or maybe a short.

I'm guessing that it's slow blow fuse. And most blown fuses are from a short to ground. Since a voltage spike in a vehicle's 12v system is practically unheard of. A short is pretty much the only way to blow a fuse.

That's not to imply that it's a simple fix. But you'll absolutely have to know what is on that circuit.

Thanks for responding.  The fuse is a mini 5amp  the board has it located as "F5".   I agree it's probably a short somewhere, as opposed to a defective module or part.  It started all of a sudden about weeks ago, running fine, then just shut down, blacking out the screen.  It would crank, but no start.  Finally after locating fuse box, found the "F5" blown.  Replaced, started right up, screen came back to life, then approx. 10 - 12 minutes later died again.  Replaced several modules, then stupid me leaned on fuel pickup and broke the inlet tab, replaced that also.

Thinking about getting a new wire harness, and a 5th of whiskey after seeing it, and just replacing it.  I am going to trace out every plug, clean them and then see if harness needs replacing.  Unless someone has an idea, and no I am not cutting out the whiskey.  lol

Thanks again for responding, I felt alone as the closest cub repair center is over 200 miles away.

Thanks

Dave

5 amp fuse can't have much on it. I wonder if it's for the instrument panel? There could easily be a short inside the panel circuit. That might explain why it's so difficult to find. Any easy way to get a look at the circuitry of that board? Both sides would be best, looking for scorched areas. Or anything that looks out of ordinary.

Just a long shot on this. But with low hours, and being an electrical problem. I'd think that it would be something like that. Unless you've taken it through high water, or drug the undercarriage across something. It seems unlikely that it would be anything else really.

I'm guessing that the warranty is no longer in effect?

Thank you i was motivated to trace this out,  after about 1 hour tracing wire by wire i found a very hidden 4 wire plug that came out of its support holder and was partially on exhaust pipe melting the connection after 10 minutes of running it would short out, causing fuse to blow.

rerouted put heat protection ran for an hour. Thank you

Okay folks. I have a low power issue. Been like this for a few years. Place I work at bought 3 and all have lost most of the pulling power.  They gave them away after local shop worked on one for 3 months and it had great power for about 1 month and then crap. They replaced throttle body, fuel injector, spark plug and IAC motor. Seat belt switches have wires cut and left open so no seat belt warning light anymore. It revs to 6k rpm in neutral but when put in gear and take off in low it just doesn’t seem to want to go anymore. Running 93 octane fuel with Stabil.  Any ideas greatly appreciated. I dont have a scan tool but no codes on dash. If held to floor it pops a little and runs almost 5K rpm but if I let off pedal about an inch it smoothed out and revs up to 6k rpm.

Put a new carb on the 500 to replace the leaking OE one.  Machine idles fine and mid and top end runs great.  It tends to have a hesitation right from the start - bottom end.   Thinking it may be the air/fuel screw??  I didn't do anything with the carb out of the box and is it direct replacement for my machine.  Of interest is the manual choke doesn't seem to work very good now.... wonder is it getting too much air?

      Any help appreciated!

I picked up this Hisun 700cc for a good deal. no crank no start unit 1900 miles on it. Put a new battery and starter solenoid fired right up but sounded rough some kind of rattle/clunk noise.  Does anyone know what this noise could be? Couldn't get a better video of it running as i don't want to risk doing more damage. Drained the oil it looks good no metal in it.
