  1. As earlier said, I checked the connections on my Coleman 550 on Friday 12/12, and I believe mystery is solved. The starter is definitely kaput, but the fault lies with me. Upon examining - cleaning connections, I discovered a second ground connection at the starter, in addition to the ground connection on the frame. The battery connection and wire for this second ground had fallen through the opening in the battery compartment and was just laying loose below the compartment out of site. I believe this happened in my haste to replace the original battery with the O'Reilly battery and the OVERSIGHT continued with the installation of the second "higher cca" Interstate battery and the new solenoid. My continuing to start the UTV with a sluggish starter by jumping the battery or using a higher CCA battery burned the starter out. The starter was not getting enough voltage to it without that 2nd ground. This happened to me once before with a tractor starter, but I guess I didn't learn. I was desperate to keep the utv going feeding cattle, now we're feeding with the pickup and an extra hand. The UTV is in the shop getting a new starter. Thanks for all the imput!
  2. My 2022 Coleman 550 actually runs great once it starts, however .the starter was very sluggish. I use this UTV everyday on the ranch, and have been able to get it started by jumping to a car (still sluggish and difficult but got me by). Here are the things that have transpired since my last post. Nov 29. Installed a new battery from TSC. This is an AGM Interstate battery. 30 AH. 385 CCA, and is supposed to be a replacement for my original battery. Starting is still sluggish, but at least now the battery would not run down, so I could eventually start it. Yesterday (12/11): Still very concerned about starting when we are out on the ranch, so replaced the starter solenoid with an exact replacement from Ebay. Now, I can't even get the starter to try. The solenoid clicks, but the starter makes no sound at all. I put the old solenoid back on, it clicks but the starter won't even try to run. Seems like things are getting worse. Today I am going to check connection at starter and the ground connection on the frame or engine. Any suggestions, Anybody????
  3. I bought my Coleman 550 in 2022 from TSC, and the original battery worked fine until a month ago. I replaced it with a Super Start from O'Relly and have had trouble ever since. Like a fool, I never looked at the maker or specs of the original battery. I just asked for a replacement and left the old battery with O'Reilly. Can anyone tell me what battery they were putting in the Coleman 550's in 2022 or Where I can get a battery that is an exact replacement for original?
  4. Hello Mark Bruce, Eppa Wimbish and all others who followed my thread originally posted 4/25/23. Ihave just now finished working on my Coleman 550X, and it is now running and starting like new. It's problems were twofold, but I believe they all came from a bad air filter installation. (1) We removed the MAF Sensor and it was very dirty -the opening was actually clogged. At the time, we also noticed a lot of crud in the Intake manifold. We cleaned MAF and the intake manifold, and we could then start it with using a small amount of pedal. It would run ok, but not perfect. (2) Decided to check valve clearances and found absolutely no clearance on the intake, but the exhaust was a little greater than .005". We set the intake at .005 and tightened up the exhaust to just a little above .005. Then the engine started without any pedal and now runs like new. Then I checked out all the air intake pipes between filter and manifold.- they were all filthy, so I cleaned thoroughly. I investigated the air filters and housing, and believe that sometime the housing lid was not closed properly. I do not like the housing design, because the lid has to be installed only one way and fastened down correctly in order to hold the filters securely in place. I believe it is virtually impossible to secure the clips on the lid with medium to large fingers, so I made a tool to do this. I believe this may have been the root of my problems. Unfortunately, now I have to worry about how much damage may have been done to the engine by it's breathing dirty air.
  5. Hello Mark, Has your UTV Dr resolved your problem yet? If you can't get good factory injectors, then where can you get them. I haven't started on mine yet, as we are finishing up a cattle watering project. Also I need to get a new spark plug wire, which arrived yesterday. One problem I have is that I have no UTV repairman within about 60 miles, so I and a hand am going to have to troubleshoot and solve the probleem. Keep me posted - I have a feeling my problem is also going to be the injector. Raider Rich
  6. Mark, Thanks for your input. I haven't had time to work much on my UTV yet,, and I was hoping to hear a few more comments back. Actually, the next thing I was goint to look at was the injector and the sensor both of which you have already checked. I will certainly l will certainly let you know if I determine the problem. 7. I have a 2022 Coleman UT 550X Outfitter purchased April 2022 that has about 200 hrs on it. About 4 weeks ago we noticed a little difficulty in starting. Instead of the usual starting without giving any pedal, we had to depress the accelerator pedal slightly in order for it to start and keep on running. Otherwise it ran fine, but last week, it would not start at all. We have checked the fuel pump, fuel filter and spark, and all seem fine. We actually replaced the spark plug. Don't know where to go from here - anybody have any suggestions?
