Joyner Renegade R4 - Coolant Thermometer Reads HOT

Hello, 

Coolant thermometer gets to max temperature after about 7-10 minutes idling, above the 237 degree marker.   However, the coolant temperature light does not turn on.  Radiator hose is cool, the hose to the block is hot, but not extremely hot.  The engine block doesn’t seem to be hot either.  The thermostat opens up and works. 
 

Does anyone know what the issue could be?  Faulty water pump maybe?

Does the coolant temperature light come on when you turn the key to start the engine from a cold start? Then go off afterwards, like the other lights?

The coolant temperature light does not come on.

How did you verify that the thermostat was operating correctly?

I ended up replacing the thermostat and flushing the radiator and coolant with new coolant.  It was quite dirty.  Seems to be working better, but still running a bit hot. I also bought a new water pump for it and going to end up changing that to see if that regulates temp much better.

If the coolant was dirty, then you should give it a proper flush, before you change that water pump. Make sure it's good for aluminum. 

As far as the light not coming on, it might not come on till it gets really hot.
