Kids 125 UTV No Start

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new to the forum.  I have a small kids utv with a 125 4 stroke motor. It sat for over a year and I decided to get it running again.  Put a new carburetor on it and it ran better than ever. Change oil and fixed the brakes kids probably drove it for a few weeks maybe 3 to 4 hour maybe. Went to put it away after it sat for maybe an hour wouldn't start.  Just turns over no spitting or sputtering.  Checked compression has 150 psi, getting spark, changed spark plug old one was pretty black.  Put new cdi on and coil still nothing.  Any ideas would be appreciated thanks.

Put  a small amount (tablespoon or so) of gas down the Spark plug hole, reinstall the plug and wire, if it fires then dies, fuel system problem, sometimes fuel lines come apart on the inside and clog things up.

Then spray some gas into the carb via the air intake, if it sputters or backfires, you may have a valve problem.

If it doesn't fire off, there should be a black kill wire going to the coil. un plug it, then try to start it, if starts. The wire is shorting and grounding the coil.

Did it fire when you put fuel in the spark plug hole and reinstalled plug?

If not you need to locate the igniton coil, you'll need to remove the flywheel fan cover. Trace the spark plug wire if you need help locating it.

There should be 2 wires on that coil. The spark plug wire and the Coil kill wire.  The kill wire is what you want. un plug it from the coil. reinstall the fan housing so you can start it.

Then put fuel in the spark plug hole, reinstall the plug and spark plug wire, and try to start if it fires, there is something grounding the coil and killing spark, could be the wire has some insulation missing and shorting on something, or a faulty kill switch. If it fires and dies with the wire unplugged you also have a carb issue.

if you unplugged the wire and it still didn't fire, bad ignition coil.

Now, when the kill wire is unplugged and it tries to start and backfires and pops, you may have valve timing issue (out of adjustment) or a sheared flywheel key.

:D

I would check the ignition coil air gap to the flywheel, If you  can't find a specification i always set them at .010" thousandths.  And i would also remove the flywheel nut/bolt and check the key while your at it, as if the key is sheared it can throw off ignition timing.

Is the engine one of those Honda clone type engines?

Hey guys! Newbie here. I'm an old man who's better with plowing a mule (4-legged kind) than these newfangled beasts. I, and a friend of mine, just bought new Coleman sxs and are having to finish the assembly. I've been reading on this site and I'm falling on the mercy of you experts. The only way I'm an expert is that an "ex" is a has been, and a spurt is a drip under pressure. LOL First off, the 2 buggies have no ignition switches. They seem to mount on the dash, not the opening in the steering wheel shaft cover, so we ordered new ones that are supposed to fit. They are 8 inches long, and have a 4-wired white plugin which is slightly rectangled when looking at the end of the plug. The trouble is there's nothing to plug into. There is a three-wire grey plug close enough to reach the four-wire plug, but of course, they are not compatible.
Secondly, the blinker, light, ect. unit on steering wheel just spins around when touched. I see no way in heaven or earth to secure it. I've looked at a diagram on the Powersports site, but can't detect how it mounted. Fellows I'd be so grateful for any help with this. Me and my mule will even plow your garden for free, for your help. LOL

      Hello friends,
I got my ODES Ravager UTV yesterday and after a couple of hours of driving when I go downhill I heard a strange loud noise a couple of times, like a gear skipping or maybe something from the differential.
It doesn't always happen and when it does it is heard for a few seconds and then it goes away and everything works normally, I'm worried if there could be some major malfunction or what could be the problem if someone can help me?
      Thanks a lot.

Hy (pronounce he), just bought a Hisun Sector E1.
I'll be using it to haul logs and stuff in the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

      Hi All,
New to UTVs and recently accuired a ut400 from our local Alaska Commercial Co. and had a questions regarding the transmission fluid. I have had a squeeling noise, sounds like a teapot, that recently started after being driven for a few minutes. The manual says to change the fluid at 500 miles, so I was thinking maybe its just time for this to be changed. Other then that I cannot find any information regarding the type used. While reading through these forums, I seen someone put that the transmission is lubricated with the engine oil. Is this true? If not what should I be using and where can I find the information to change it out? Any input on this would be greatly appretiated!
      Thanks in advance

I have a Bennche 700 EFI Bighorn. I’ve recently been unable to get it to start. After a little troubleshooting I realized my fuel pump was not pumping fuel. This weekend I emptied the gas and replaced it with new. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel injector. I also replaced the battery, spark plug and made sure all my fuses and relays were good. I have confirmed that the float on the fuel pump is not obstructed. The UTV is about 12 years old and has less than 100 hours on it. It has not run in over a year.  Not sure whats going on?!? After doing a little reading I'm leaning towards it being an issue with the ECU or perhaps a faulty wire in the wiring harness. Anyone have any ideas on where to start looking or what I could be dealing with? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!
