Fort Lieutenant (USMCO2) - Cub Cadet 500 Challenger Reverse Issues

So my wife surprised me with a Cub Cadet 500 Challenger. It was used, but in great shape. I have been wanting one for my VERY hilly farm up here in the Oregon Coast Range.

It ran awesome until I hitched a lightweight road grader on and worked up the gravel of my private road: a hilly, 1/4 mile road that needs constant upkeep because of the rain. It started dogging-out and wouldn’t idle. Had it in the shop and was repaired. They told me there needed a spark plug change.

Now I’m having issues getting it into reverse. I might add, when I first drove it, I was befuddled that it had no clutch! Keep in mind I had nothing to go on before hand. My wife -- very loveingly -- just bought it and had it delivered one day a few months back.

Any help provided will be humbly and greatly appreciated my 4-wheeling friends.

Make sure idle down and push hard on brake if necessary a couple times before going into reverse or park. Also it’s a high rpm low horsepower engine. For any kind of load like grading use low range to keep rpm’s up.  Also. Make sure your in neutral , stoped with rpm’sdown to go into 4wheel drive or lock differentials and then only go straight with locked differential.  This can be a high maintenance machine. Highly electronic, digital and perhaps overly complex.

Your Cadet Challenger 500 is a re-branded Hisun HS500--also sold as the Coleman UT500 and Outfitter 500--what model year is it?

There is a Service manual dated September, 2009 available in the Forum's download section (click here). It has a section with detailed instructions for adjusting shifter (curiously titled "The Reverse Mechanism"), see page 265...

Here's a pictorial connection diagram of the Hisun speed limiter "black box"--it should be under the hood up high somewhere (mine is right in front of the cowl near the brake reservoir (it is clearly silk-screen labeled "Speed Limiter"):

Both the "reverse" (pin 4)and seat belt (pin 5) connections are "active" low (ground) signals--just cut or otherwise disconnect either wire to disable that function. You could probably disconnect the speed input on pin 4 or ECU output signal  (pin 6)) to disable both.

We have a Buck UTV about one year old. It makes a loud whining sound when you accelerate, regardless of what gear. (We have carefully checked and replaced all fluids, twice since we got it. ) The noise persists. Any tips on what this is caused by?

What specific model (year and engine size)?

I have a Coleman Outfitter 550 purchased in January 2022 that runs and operates pretty well.  65 hours on it so far.   It is a work vehicle for my 10 hilly acres with two 1 acre woods and 5 acres of "lawn".  The rest is under a lake.
My parking brake does not seem to have any grip.  It worked when new but after a month or so, it is just almost useless.     I press the parking brake pedal hard until it stops. Still, it won't hold even on slight inclines.   I don't see the caliper move as I press the brake pedal down.  There seems to be plenty of pad left on it and the rotor is shiny as if it is rubbing a little when applied, but not enough to stop it from rolling.
      Any thoughts on possible causes?

Put a new carb on the 500 to replace the leaking OE one.  Machine idles fine and mid and top end runs great.  It tends to have a hesitation right from the start - bottom end.   Thinking it may be the air/fuel screw??  I didn't do anything with the carb out of the box and is it direct replacement for my machine.  Of interest is the manual choke doesn't seem to work very good now.... wonder is it getting too much air?

      Any help appreciated!

Okay folks. I have a low power issue. Been like this for a few years. Place I work at bought 3 and all have lost most of the pulling power.  They gave them away after local shop worked on one for 3 months and it had great power for about 1 month and then crap. They replaced throttle body, fuel injector, spark plug and IAC motor. Seat belt switches have wires cut and left open so no seat belt warning light anymore. It revs to 6k rpm in neutral but when put in gear and take off in low it just doesn’t seem to want to go anymore. Running 93 octane fuel with Stabil.  Any ideas greatly appreciated. I dont have a scan tool but no codes on dash. If held to floor it pops a little and runs almost 5K rpm but if I let off pedal about an inch it smoothed out and revs up to 6k rpm.
