Got what I hope was a good deal on a Coleman 400 aka Hisun HS400. Previous owner returned it to TSC and it wouldn’t start. I pulled the plug and it’s fouled. Cleaned it and it sputtered, but fouled again. I did test for spark after cleaning and had a nice white spark. Plug is an NGK R DR8EA. I will be getting a new plug and a fuel filter to install inline. I was going to open up the fuel tank and check for debris and drain the tank as I have no clue how old the current gas is. Currently it won’t start so just trying to get it going so I can trouble shoot the rest.

My plan.

Pull airbox and check for obstructions and clogged filters, replace.

Crank and check plug.

Disconnect 02 sensor and see if it starts

Check timing chain tension

Any other things I should look at. The plugs seem to have some oil, but that could be carbon?

So I got it running by changing plugs. Ran it a hour or so now won’t start. It stalled on me once but got it started and drove home. Now won’t start at all. I’ve pulled the air filter tried starting. No luck. Changed plugs again, no luck. The injector does pulse fuel out and it does spark at the plug. Not sure what else to check. Where is the timing chain, how do I check it?

Was out hunting in Montana for a week. Seems like it’s flooding. I originally got it running by changing to a iridium plug.   Then next day wouldn’t start. Spark is there fueling is there. So I Bought a new air cleaner gunna add that and start diagnostics again.

This is an EFI engine. DO NOT PRESS DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL TO START. Turn key and listen for the gas pump to stop, approx. 5 seconds then turn key all the way to start, keep foot of the gas pedal until it's running.  I also had starting and plug problems at first.

I'm having a similar issue with my Coleman UT400, but it started after we left it out in the rain over night (we usually keep it in the garage). We were expecting a large delivery, so needed the garage space for a couple days, and got an unexpected rain shower.  When I went to bring it back inside, it turned over fine, but would not fire. I ordered/replaced the CDI, voltage regulator, and coil and still would not start.  Cleaned the plug, and it fired right up ... this time. After a few short runs, it quit starting again. The plug was wet fouled with fuel. The same NGK DR8EA as mentioned above. I picked up a couple new ones, but now I have to rotate those in about every 3 starts ... either it won't start, or shortly after starting, it will stall and not refire. Also, when a new/clean plug (I clean them with alcohol and then sandblast them real quick) is put in, it will crank in a couple of seconds, but subsequent attempts will take running the starter motor for 10-15 seconds before it fires. Googling brought me to a page that said Hisuns were bad about bad/dirty injectors causing fouling (I have always run premium with stabilizer in it), so I ordered and replaced the injector too but experienced the exact same issue. Seems like the next thing to try would be the ECU, but that's a little pricey, so I'm hoping for other suggestions before I go there. Now, I did try a hotter plug (DR7EA) and it seems to not foul as quickly, but from the get-go it has taken a lot of cranking on the starter to get it to start up, but seems to run better once started.

Update for anyone following.  Took it to the local mechanic he sells and repairs chines bikes. He stated the valves were super tight and that he would recommend checking them every 40-50 hours.  Starts right up bows and purrs like a kitten.

My Coleman 400 UTV has 25 hrs on it, same starting problems, took it to authorized repair center, they found broken piston rings that were causing fouling of plugs,  Broken rings cause engine failure, now waiting for engine replacement.  Still under warranty, had it for three months.

My Coleman is still in the repair shop waiting for Coleman to pay for replacing the engine.  It's now May 12, 2022.  It seems they are slow in paying for dealer repairs under warranty.

Was having the same hard start/no start issues as discussed like others. Had been changing plugs trying to convince myself that was the problem. Saw the post about adjusting the valves. The intake had no clearance, appeared to have considerable tension on it. Adjusted it to .005, exhaust was at .005. Started right up, have had no problems since. Thanks to everyone for posting.

Hi, my 2010 Hisun will crannk but comes to a stop and only clicks.  It has new battery and solinoid. Battery connections all seem good. Any ideas what the problem is?

Just received delivery of a 2024 AMP Pro.  Thought I'd start a thread with my impressions as I use it and learn more.  There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of real-world usage information out there on this model.  Hope this will help others as they research.
      Intended Use Cases
Fire mitigation / slash removal from a 5 acre forested and well-gamble-oaked property.  The previous owners thought as much about fire mitigation as I do about fashion: not much. Snow removal Stump pulling General hauling (rock, lumber, etc.) Weimaraner energy depletion.  Wasn't an original use case, but a nice added bonus.  Experiences So Far
Wasn't impressed that two of the bumpers on the underside of the bed where it sits upon the frame were missing.  The metal on metal contact has damaged the powder coating and the frame.  I expect a little better QC.
I've only put a few hours on it, so not a ton to report on usage.  It isn't quiet; it's silent.  I can't even detect an electric note from the motor. I removed (and subsequently replaced) the motor cover noticed that the motor is German and made by Schambuller.  The motor controller is Italian and made by Dana TM4.  Given the operating specs of both I found on the web, I suspect both are higher quality than the previous Navitas (which is supposed to be decent).  The motor is rated at 25 hp and 71.5 lb-ft of torque.  It feels very powerful.  All the torque is delivered instantly, if desired.
The bed is huge and has an electric dump as standard.  Great feature but would like it to go up a bit more.  Probably not feasible from an engineering perspective, but I want and I need ;).
Power steering is nice, but vague.  Probably common to many UTVs, but I am accustomed to more direct results from input.  Plan early and plan often.
In our first full day of usage, we hauled about 1/2 as much slash as the entire rest of the year when I was doing it by hand cart.  I may get fatter, but I'll also get more done.  After a few days of usage, the battery meter has gone down by 1/10th.
      Until next time...

Riding out today it acted like it ran out of gas,  stalled and died and would not start.   Towed back to house,  New  plug added this past month,  plenty of oil, getting plenty of gas, battery cranks good.   Trys to kick in and starts but doesnt.   Two days prior while sitting at a idle it died.  Added gas and it started did my ranch chores with it.  But just now it stalled out cranks but will not start.   Tried to find if fault codes came up on the clock like manual says but not sure I am doing that right.  Any and all help apprecated.  Thank you

I’m getting a 700-7 every startup. I’m having to change the plug every 100 miles on 93 octane gas. I got a lower numbered plug that is supposed to burn hotter. I’m wondering why that comes up every time I start it and if it’s related? I included a picture of the code or whatever it is. I haven’t seen the code in the owners manual or the hisun shop manual I have.
