I just lubed my drive shaft carrier bearing. It was nearly all but impossible to get at. Finally after unbolting the bearing so I could slide it from side to side, I took out the stock greese fitting, which is on the top side torwards the front, and replaced it with a 1/4" tube fiting which uses a 1/8" pipe thread. This pipe thread is close enough to the stock fitting so the start of it threads can be ground down to form a taper so the threaded hole can be found when trying to screw it in. The rest of the threads were ground down about 1/3 the depth of the threads. Getting to the fitting placement is tough but doable. When finally started an open end wrench can bearly be manulipulated to get it tight. I then pushed on a peice of the 1/4" tubing and secured it with a ferrel and ferrel nut. The tube was about 8" long. At the other end I screwed in a greese fitting that had a 1/4 - 28 thread. If the tubing is lightly heated and a tapered object is used to lightly flair the end, you can get the greese fitting to tightly thread into it. Now the fittiong hangs down where I can easily get at it. Greesing from now on will be much easier.

Lenny, are you talking about the grease fitting on the carrier bearing located roughly between the seats?

      Which is the best oil to use ?

      I have been doing a little research on which engine oil is best for UTV engines.  There seems to be some disagreement over using a good quality regular engine oil, and the necessity of using "M2" (or wet clutch suitable) oil.  My understanding is the "wet clutch" suitable oil has less friction reduction properties (hence a more responsive clutch with less slippage).  While less friction reduction properties would seem to be better for the wet clutch... it would not be best for the internal engine parts like camshaft bearings and other moving parts where friction is detrimental and would lead to premature failure.  Some folks swear you need M2 oil, while others say they have been using regular motor oil for years and their clutch is just fine.  Could they both be right ???
      Any thoughts ?

      2020 Tracker 800 sx front end noise

      I have a 2020 800 sx with about 16 hours on it.  From day one I have heard a clunking noise from the front end going over bumps.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Also this past weekend while out riding I heard a noise that sounded like the dump bed bounced three or four different times, again has anyone experienced anything like that.  Thanks, gary

      Bobcat 2200 dump bed relay pops fuse and stalls after warm

      I had to remove the relay for the dump bed due to it popping the fuse for main key power. I have tried to find a short but nothing seems to out of normal. I also disconnected the dump motor and switch and still pops the fuse. Also, when the machine is warmed up i get about 5 to 10 of work out of before it stalls. Once I can get it to start again I have to use the choke to keep it running.

      550 - Diff fluid change and final drive?

      Howdy y'all,
      I have the service manual, but it leaves me with questions.
      1)  It is time to change the diff fluid.  The service manual says 80w-90 for the rear and Dextron 3 ATF for the front!  Is that correct?  That seems odd to me.
      2) The service manual also speaks of the need to change the transmission fluid but gives no detail about it.  What needs to happen here?
      3). The service manual also discusses changing the final drive fluid with 80-90 Hypoid.  Is the final drive actually the tranny?
      Any details about the changing of the fluid or what fluid to use ... or even other things that need to be changed that the manual does not mention would be appreciated.

      New to the forum. 
      Came here looking for some experienced UTV users who can enlighten me about which brand should I pick for my very first UTV or SXS. 
      I'm between 3 brands and 3 models: 
      *Kawasaki MULE PRO-FXR   1000.
      *Yamaha wolverine rmax2. 
      *Can am Commander XTP. 
      The use I'm willing to give it is mostly to go to the range with my wife, load steel targets and all our shooting gear, we shoot a lot, rifles, Shotguns and Handguns for practice, training and competition. (Range is about 10 miles from home) 
      But also I want something that I can take to the trails and have fun on dirt, mud, rocks, puddles or creeks. 
      Any objective information will be appreciated, specially which is more reliable and durable.
