Massimo T-Boss 410 Unnecessary Winch Part?

I'm a newbie.  While I'm testing out my new to me 2021 Massimo T-Boss 410 winch, I broke the Orange Ring that fits around the cable.  I can't see much of a purpose for this ring, other than to be in the way, and to break.  Is this ring really necessary?  I did find it on the Massimo winch parts diagram, but I'm thinking,  Meah?  Am I wrong?   (It's # 13 and 14 on the parts diagram, attached)

I believe (I could be wrong and most likely am) that part is to act as a sort of stop for the winch cable. I have a 2019 T-boss 410 with the same plastic part.

That would be my guess too, however, the material has no give.  I broke it, winding the cable in.  Poor design? Or just operator error?  Thanks for responding.

Yeah, it would be better if it were made of a hard rubber, but it is what it is. Mine hasn't broken yet, only because I remove it when I'm using the winch, and I only replace it when I am rewinding the cable. I'm sure if you do some Internet surfing, you can find another one that's manufactured with better material.
