Well, overheating finally resolved.. 500 miles on MSU500 now , runs great... Heres the rub.. transmission seems to be making a whining noise in gear only .. increases with speed.. anyone got any ideas?Ā  Oil was just changed last month and is full and clear.Ā  Ā Just cant express how happy I am with Massimo!!! NOT!!!

no, its fully engaged, pulls normally. no noise shifting into or out of gear or whileĀ  idle in gear.. just aĀ  whine as you drive that increases with more power.. no noise in neutral or reverse .. sounds kindaĀ  like a power steering pump low on fluid.. but theres no power steering on itĀ

not yet... My ATV mechanic is out of town for 2 weeksĀ  .. seemsĀ  like its coming fromĀ Ā the CVT .. Continuously Variable Transmission section.. maybe the drive belts are already worn out at 500 miles? .. Would not surprise me.. Such poor quality parts in this thing .. just spent $1500 on it to cure the overheatingĀ  .. I really regret the day I let my Dad talk me into buying it instead of the Honda Pioneer.. I now have as much in this one as the Honda sold for.. oh well... live and learn..Ā

Kawasaki's CVT's in their mules whine from day one at increased speed.

Really? I was not aware.Ā  maybe it s not a big deal then... I sure hope so.......... but 500 miles on it without whine..seems odd it just starts now.. and you know howĀ  I have Ā confidence in Jackassimo qualityĀ

Ā yeah, once you get up to about 12-15 mph, there is a slight whine, but you're right, 500 miles with no whine, then all of the sudden... that's sounds suspect.

this whine starts at 3-5 mph and increases as you go faster in either LOW or HIGH gear positions.. .Ā  does not make it in neutral so its not engine , has to be in that CVT contraption..Ā

is your CVT similar to this? spacer.png

I believe so.. it use belts on tapered pulleysĀ  to change the gear ratio according to rpm vs load .. I hope the noise is just the belts hummingĀ

well if it doesn't do it in neutral, then it's not the CVT belt or pulleys as they operate the same regardless of what gear you're in.

something internal.

Well, I guess when it breaks 5 miles in the woods, I ll find outĀ Ā what is making the whine .. and you know thats when it will break , not unloading from trailer .. I m pretty sure its not the wet clutch or the gear assembly or bearings , because the oil is clear and clean ,no metal or clutch material in it, no burnt smell... and no noise at all idling or while revving engine .. so its in whatever turns with driveline.. but not coming from rear axle area..

Well, I asked forĀ  help from Motorcycle Doctor that someone suggested.. They said jack it up on jack stands and run in gear to isolate noise.. seemed reasonable..Ā  tried just rear wheels.. makes no noise, tried all 4 wheels off the ground... nothing.... not a peep.. just like revving in neutral.. NO NOISE!Ā  . put it back on ground and the whine is still there. in high or lowĀ  range and 2 or 4 wdĀ  .. scratching my head...Ā

with only 500 miles on it seems unlikely its a wheel bearing or U-joint.. There is no slack in any of them.. I checked.. and they were all spinning 15 mph on jack stands.. no noise.Ā  The noise isnt coming from a wheel, it sounds like a transmission noise, like a power steering pump or trans pumpĀ  but its not fluid drive, its belt... If it was wet clutch it would make noise on take off or idle but it doesnt.. It starts about 5 mph and increase with speed......Ā  Ā its just more weird crap that only Massimo seems to suffer from .. I guess when it breaks , I ll know what it was. ..................

Otherwise its running great.. I installed an adjustable temp switchĀ  [ from EBAY , $19 } into the circuit where the old radiator thermoswitch connected,Ā  Ā with a probe to radiator . and set it to keep engine at 140-150 degreesĀ  now that winter is here.. seems to work just fine.. No more overheating issues since Yamaha parts installed . Starts instantly, idles perfectly, plenty of power on trails.Ā  4 WD works fine ,,,,JUST THAT DAMN WHINING from under my assĀ  .. annoying as hell..Ā

How about a bearing on one of the output shafts? My riding mower had a bad bearing on one of the spindles for the deck, but it didn't have any play at all. But it would definitely make noise when the blades were engaged.Ā

Just a thought.Ā

Sounds like you've put some thought into this. You no longer have to be concerned, and you get some measure of revenge on the new boyfriend. It's genius in its simplicity!!!šŸ‘Ā But, can you really run at 20mph?

Been waiting over a month and a half for a transmission from bobcat,Ā  they claim the polaris transmission is different.Ā  Ā Can anyone verify that???

Runs fine just putting around the yard. Get it out on the road and about a half miles it runs out of gas. Let it idle for a few minutes and it will run for another half mile and do it again. Replaced both fuel pumps and filter. Does anyone know if I can get rid of the factory fuel pump?

I have a 2007 Joyner 1100 sand viper andĀ  before it even get's to where the thermostat opens up the oil pressure get's so low I have to shut it down. What could fix this ? I thought about adding an oil cooler with fan, thicker oil, or removing the thermostat. Any advice?

2004 250DL DIRT DEVIL. Hey y’all, I already know this is a long shot. But I am looking for a the ā€œprick gearā€ assembly that makes reverse work for my external reverse gearbox. OEM PN D250.08.103 and its assembly. I bought the kart as a basket case, but I saw that the reverse box was present so I was optimistic. Ā Upon starting working on the buggy I realized there was a block off plate in plate of there the normal gear would be. If my understanding is correct that means the transmission no longer has reverse gear. I figured it’s just a standard bevel gear and I could probably find a gear to make work, but I don’t want to spend the time making all the other housing parts to shim the gear perfectly. Has anyone spare parts, or figured out an aftermarket solution from McMaster? I already know it’ll be a challenge to get this box to be happy again, but figured I would ask Ā

      Hello,
Before I invest $10k+ into a brand new UTV for the farm, I want to get my feet wet with a fixer upper and learn the mechanical side of things. I acquired a 2022 Hisun Axis 500 (Lowes-specific model) from an auction for $500. It has only 200 hours and 120 miles on the engine. It looks like the previous owner used it for ranch work and didn't drive it on trails, deep water/mud, or anything too crazy.
While it runs and moves, it has some problems. It struggles to accelerate up any incline in high and low range and sometimes stalls when I let off of the throttle or change gears. When I apply throttle in neutral, it sounds like it is struggling for fuel/air and pops. When I decelerate, there is a grinding sound coming from the clutch, which I've read to be related to the one way bearing and is semi-common. The last thing I've observed is sometimes the speedometer display sometimes will show a much higher value for a few seconds after barely touching the throttle. Based on the documentation, if a problem is detected from the sensors, the instrument panel display should have an error code rendered on the screen in place of the time, but this isn't happening. Here is a video showing some of these issues (engine is exposed with console removed):

Here is another video of the clutches in action:

I've done some research, but information on this specific unit and sister units is limited. There does seem to be transmission and clutch issues reported. I still need to check into the head gaskets. I don't have the equipment to test compression right now, but I do plan on ordering what is needed soon. I do have an order in place for some cables to read the diagnostics from the computer. There is a shop two hours away from me that works on Hisun products, but I am hoping the problem can be identified and is something within my ability to handle. Below is what I've already investigated.Ā  I am leaning towards the primary clutch needing replacement right now.
After getting it home and unloaded, I did the following maintenance/checks to it prior to operating it further:
Changed the engine/clutch oil (and filter) and gear oils using manufacture recommended viscosity Changed the air filter and checked for cracks in the air intake flow. Verified good suction. Cleaned the throttle body Changed the spark plug and verified the gap was within spec (0.6-0.7mm) Changed the coil and coil wire Changed the fuel lines, fuel injector, and verified the fuel pump was outputting the correct initial prime pressure for ignition and continuous pressure after ignition. Also completely emptied the fuel tank and made sure octane 91+ fuel is being used per manufacturer specs. Ran seafoam through system too. Cleaned the spark arrester and verified no cracks or gaps in the exhaust flow Changed out the O2 sensor Checked all wired connections to ensure they were secured and no breaks were visible Checked the belt for tightness and for any signs of wear and tear Verified 4WD and the differential lock function as expected - still hesitates and struggles uphill Verified the fan gears in the shifter are not corroded and working as expected ECU was reset after replacing sensors and fuel-related parts Ā
      Ā
      Thanks!
