Wife said UTV stopped running and cannot restart. I checked the battery, it was good. I checked the fuse box, no blown fuses. Whe I tried to start, the starter had a thump noise one time, and the starter relay wires were hot. I replaced the relay, nothing. I then replaced the starter and still the same symptoms. It won't start and relay wires hot.  Any ideas what to check next- perhaps ground strap of which I have no idea where it would be, or perhaps a new fuse box with new relays?

Based on those symptoms I would remove and bench test the starter next. It sounds like there may be an internal short.

Remove it and clamp it to the workbench. Connect a battery with jumper cables to the ground, and tap the terminal briefly with the positive cable and see if it spins like it should. My guess would be it doesn't.

From the text you wrote, it seems that it stopped running while your wife was operating it. At that point, she tried to re-start it without success. Does it turn over? If it does, look to the ignition, if not; does the starter get voltage while trying it? If it does and the engine won't turn over the engine might be siezed. If it doesn't look to the relay. Is there voltage going to the relay but not going through during start up, then it's a relay. Your volt meter is always your best friend.

If it were my machine, (MSU 800) I'd take the screw cap off the end of the magneto, using the correct size Allen wrench make sure the engine isn't stuck, "froze". Can't say for sure on that 500 if that's how to check it. I'm sure there are some here that can tell you. Aefron88 for one.

Runs fine just putting around the yard. Get it out on the road and about a half miles it runs out of gas. Let it idle for a few minutes and it will run for another half mile and do it again. Replaced both fuel pumps and filter. Does anyone know if I can get rid of the factory fuel pump?

Hello, All!  I've decided to replace the traction batteries in my 2018 Sector E1 with a 48V Lithium set. They may be expensive, but I figure the Discovery Dry Cell are, too. I am not looking for the max driving range, as I have never received near the brochured range to begin with, but a good mix of charge/ get work done/ charge is what I am expecting.
I have settled on the 48V EAGL kit from bigbattery dot com. Each battery pack provides 30Ah. The kit ships with a charger, as well. The packs would be physically connected in parallel (using a busbar) to one another, maintaining the 48V voltage, but together would be able to provide the amp draw the buggy pulls when going up hill or towing a rake (rated 320 max continuous Amps). This is in comparison to the serial connection the eight 6V lead batteries. Each of the EAGL batteries looks to have its own BMS; am I correct in thinking I will have to use their included charger rather than (simply) changing the onboard charger to lithium mode? The chemistry of the pack is LiFe PO4, for what it's worth.  I haven't torn anything apart yet (to diagram), so  I am not sure how the dash will interpret the AMP draw, but the kit I am looking at includes a dash mounted charge indicator.
If anyone has completed a similar conversion, do you have any tips? Specifically, how did you remove the original batteries, and how did you secure the new ones? I am guessing that almost any change from the stock batteries would involve at least some modifications. Any tips would be appreciated, especially things I may have failed to consider. Thanks!

I replaced the stator on our Bennche 500 because it was not charging. It ran as long as you kept the battery charged. I replaced the stator now it’s not firing. The only problem I found was a wire in the new stator for the crank position sensor was in the wrong place in the plug. I switched it around but still no fire. Putting a meter on those wires and cranking the motor showed no voltage from the crank position sensor. Something I did or a bad “new “ part? Thanks for any ideas.
