  1. I found out my shaft goes all the way through to the other side. The open diff. has a short shaft on both sides. I have to split the cases to fix mine. I'm installing an open diff. in place of the closed one. Bruce
  2. This is exactly right. Mine is an '07 Viper with a closed diff and in late '08 they changed it to an open diff. I am going to replace mine with an open diff. See Kinarfi's diagram. This is true and why I am changing to an open diff.
  3. I'm not sure. I think you have locked differentials like what I have now but you have the levers to lock and unlock them. I've been talking to Kinarfi and when I get my parts I am going to send him pictures. He can explain things a lot better than I can. Bruce
  4. I don't know which is better. In that post, one says it's like limited slip which would be good and another says it's not. I'll call around today to see what I can find out.
  5. Hi guys. Thanks for the info. Here are some pics. Broken piece in the CV joint cup Couple of pics of the trans. What it should look like. Part #16 The link to the parts. http://www.borossi.com/download/BB%201100%20Motor.pdf Here is a link about the two diffs. http://www.joynerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?73-Transmission-Output-Shafts Here is a link about someone else having the same break. http://www.minibuggy.net/forum/driveline/8490-joyner-1100-sand-viper.html One of my friends said to pull the oil seal and try to get a hold of the shaft and pull it out. Then replace the shaft and seal. That shaft is probably locked in pretty tight. Bruce
  6. Well maybe not THAT bad. But I'm not happy. Broke a left side output shaft last night. Climbing a steep 100ft or so rocky mountain and half way up.....clunk and sharp left turn. Got home fortunately. Thought it was a CV joint again. I just replaced the left joints and axle in June. After inspection it was the output shaft. Don't know where to go from here. Doing some searching on the net I found out that latter in '08 the Sand Vipers came stock with open diffs. Mine is an '07 closed, or locked diff. Maybe I should look for an open diff as a replacement. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Bruce
  7. Lexan is the polycarbonate I used. I carried a jug of water and micro fiber cloths and cleaned it with a lot of water. I had it almost a year that way but when you rode into the sun it was terrible. Also we have a ton of dust down here so it hard on plastic. But it worked good. Bruce.
  8. Checked the forcast after I posted. Calling for 98 today. Cold spell. Took the buggy out for a test ride. About 25 miles on some rough stuff, up to 53mph. Windshield worked great. Pics of new windsheild.
  9. Hey nocturnalsixer.........I held the polycarbonate in with nuts and bolts. I laid one sided sticky foam strips on the angle iron frame, laid the polycarbonate in, and attached flat bar around the edges with small nuts and bolts. They actually went through the polycarbonate. With the glass I took the frame to a glass company in Parker, AZ and he cut the glass to fit and glued it in with windshield urethane. He didn't want to drill holes in the glass and said the urethane will hold the glass in just fine. Just had it done and haven't driven it yet but I'll let you know. Might take a ride today before it gets too hot. We're still 105 degrees in the daytime here. Bruce
  10. I permanently mounted my windshield but I have plenty of open space below my hood to let air through. I had polycarbonate at first but it scratches after a while so I had 1/4" laminated tinted windshield glass glued in. Much better. The pics are the polycarbonate but the glass looks the same, just clearer.
  11. That's a 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 Touring.....I still have it and love it. I've put a trunk on it since the pic because my wife doesn't ride with me any more on that. There was only a few quads that year so I'm surprised to see the picture. I also saw it in the magazine after the rally. If I remember correctly I think there were about 64 OHV's on one of the rides I went on. It was a lot of fun and I was sorry to see they couldn't continue having the rallies. I also now have a 2007 Joyner 1100 Sand Viper which I love. That's what I'll ride in the rally this year. I'd love to help you with the rally if you need me. I have a buddy Randy who was there and also knows the area real well, too. Bruce
  12. Hey factory25, I assume you're talking about the Desert Bloom Rally. I went to the first one. As a matter of fact I did a search on the 2012 rally and fount this article. Believe it or not, that's a picture of me on my quad. http://paloverdevalleytimes.com/main.asp?SectionID=215&SubSectionID=751&ArticleID=17537 Bruce
  13. You and rocmoc can look me up, and anyone else for that matter, at [email protected]. I'll be glad to show you some trails. Bruce
  14. Like what nocturnalsixer said. On my Sand Viper I used a front wheel axle puller with a slide hammer. I borrowed mine from Autozone. Pops them right out. Bruce
  15. I wish you good luck. It will be nice to meet you.
  16. Hey rocmoc......I'll be there, I live there. Look me up.
  17. Try this. http://www.jmcmotors.us/catalog/parts_group.php?group=412
  18. Sounds like a good deal. I would be interested two weeks ago.
  19. What could get ugly is if my friend Charlie comes with me. This winter we swapped out his 150hp VW engine with a Honda V-Tech 3.5L V-6. 300hp. Charlie built his own long travel chassis. He's been building cars since he was 15 years old. Been racing most of his life. He likes to go fast. https://picasaweb.google.com/116641377128105759104/Charlie#
  20. Thanks Kinarfi. Checking the specs on the NAPA #686-2149, the large end is about 3.25". Your Troopers must have larger CV's than the Viper. Norrec Industries doesn't show boots for the Viper and I'm afraid the part number they show for the Trooper won't work. Lenny, I read your "After Jamboree" thread. I took my right side axle out and I don't think my CV's come apart. I wiped it all down and the balls stayed in the cage. Right side looks good so I'll just re-lube it and put it back with new boots. I'm going down to Blythe, CA where there is about four auto parts stores and see what I can do. I'll let you know. Can't wait to ride with you guys, I like to go fast, too. Thanks for all the info, Bruce
