Mule 610 stalling while plowing snow.....

Recommended Posts

Question for the group....i have a 2015 Mule 610..........been pretty reliable....250 hours on meter.....this past weekend, i was plowing snow..........yes, extremely cold, but i noticed that Mule ran fine when running around the neighborhood, but when i went to plow, especially when the snow was heavy,  when i would come to the end of a "push", the thing would stall out......started right back up with no issues......ran ok otherwise.................doesn't miss, doesn't backfire, idles fine otherwise.....any thoughts? thanks

first thing that comes to mind is fuel supply.  whens the last time you changed the filter?

thanks for responding...........that was my first thought, but fuel filter was changed sometime earlier this year..........i took it out again yesterday......plowed some snow, and ran around the property running thru 10 inches of snow............no issues......the only difference is the temp yesterday was about 25, no wind.................when i had the issues, it was -8, with 35 mph winds...............i did add some fuel dryer in between times.....is it possible that i had a small chunk of ice in the filter, that was causing the problem?........i always run with fuel stabilizer, but the fuel dryer was a new additive............

couple ideas, its fuel issue, could have ice crystals in fuel tank, throw some additive in the fuel second fuel pump, saw this several times pump seems to work but not to capacity required for loading high rpm motor

for information regarding the fuel pump, they go weak idle all day but full power they will not supply enough fuel to keep going, what I found Walmart sells the fuel pump for under 20 dollars, here I have to order on line keep a couple around, one in the glove box

will do laurence noon............good idea...................i am careful not to idle it for long periods of time...........

we use our Mule fxt 820 to plow snow. It has been fine of the last two years. We have it serviced every spring. This year it started to cough and cug on the uphill part of the plowing. We would let it cool down then it would seem OK for a while. There is no way to get it off the mountain in the winter, so we started trouble shooting ourselves. We found that the vacuum holes had failed, so we replaced them. then we replaced the fuel filter. Those things did the trick It is running fine now.  We are disappointed that these things were not a part of the serve last spring, the service manual doesn't include these items as standard Maintenace, which I think is odd. By the way, we purchased the Service manual, which was very expensive. I used to write technical manuals before I retired. This manual it probably one of the worse I've seen., the layout is terrible. References between sections don't include page numbers and the titles are sketchy. Kawaski hire a professional writer.

Anyway, if you are having problems with power or cugging, try the vacuum hoses and fuel filter.

Mine is overheated/burned/melt at connection with its wire connector, parts are ordered to replace both them.  This seems to be a common issue, and some of you already replaced it. I right now just connect the wires, so the fan runs  all the time whenever the initiation is on, but it's better let fan runs as needed with a working temperature sensor/switch.
Question: Does some coolant come out by removing the switch/sensor from radiator?  Or, is the threaded hole all the way inside radiator?   If the answer is yes,  I want to drain or extract  some coolant to make its level below the sensor before replacing it, so I don't make a mess with coolant spilled out
      Thank you.

My UTV is a few years old and gets very little use.  I just noticed the drive belt slapping the plastic guard and making some noise.  The manual tells me how to replace it but not how to tighten it.  Apparently, there is no adjustment.  Does anyone know if there is an adjustment?  Is the belt supposed to have a lot of slop in it?

Hopefully this helps somebody because I couldn't find any info on this runaway condition.

Drove 1/2 mile to the gas station and when I started up to leave the starter stuck on. Turn key off starter is still running~! Limp it home wondering what the heck to do, get it in the garage and pull the negative battery terminal to get it to stop. Whew, WTF?

Calm down and start checking things, starter is hot of course but nothing is smoking and nothing smells burnt. Pull battery cover off and start checking wires from battery to relay and relay to the starter. OK good nothing is hot, nothing is crispy and nothing is melted. Probably smoked the starter though. If this had happened to my wife and I wasn't around the machine would have run until the battery died and probably melted down/burned.

I'll get to the point to save you folks some time and trouble. Because this is a kymco machine you need 2 different Kawasaki parts to make this repair, and information is scarce to say the least. The switch and a sub harness to connect it to the machine's plug.

Everything works now, but the starter sounds horrible so I'll be changing that too before spring.

Good luck out there and hopefully this is just a freak occurrence, but if I were you I'd get rid of this kymco part and put the Kawasaki replacement in now.

Switch, Magnetic is part number 27010-0767
Sub Harness Start Relay is part number 26031-Y034

Recently acquired a 21 year old Mule.  The previous owner let the brake master cylinder run dry, and when I flushed the brakes, one wheel's brakes locked up.  I took the wheel off, but cannot get the axle nut off, and there is not enough space to get my gear puller behind the drum anyway.  Anybody had an issue with seized brakes?  How can I get this thing off to replace it or rebuild it?
