New to owning a UTV and got myself a project one as my first one.

Changed out the clutch and clutch housing etc. as the UTV was having problems going up hills and getting up to speed but now in the process of putting it all back together it won't start. Also changed fan gears for shifter

Here's what I've found so far (apologies for the bullet points);

  • Motor will crank over and makes good turnover speed.
  • If I use spark plug tester or ground to engine, no spark.
  • At the connector to the ignition coil I get consistent 12v on the white wire and nothing at the black. Read in one of the posts that the 12v to the white wire should be intermittent when trying to get a spark at the plug?
  • Tested ignition coil using a multimeter on resistance setting. Between two pins I get 0.46 ohms or thereabouts. Between either pin and spark plug boot I get somewhere around 16k ohms. Not really found a good video on testing these coils but think those are good readings.
  • Checked fuses in fuse box and are all good.
  • Fuel pump cycles on when I turn key to on position.
  • I disconnected the ignition coil to remove the clutch etc. to get it out the way but don't think I've damaged anything in the process.

Can anyone point me in the direction of what to try next? Been trying to use the manual but considering the test procedure for the ignition coil is for the wrong type of coil, it's not been too helpful. I've read on another post about checking the ECM the two pins with 12v etc so will take a look at that next but any ideas that could get this machine started again are welcome!

So managed to get out to the UTV after work today and after struggling with the connections for a few minutes was able to test the inputs to the ECM. Everyone who said to read the fine print, you're not wrong!

Tested 12v constant at pin 18 and 12v at pin 15 when ignition switch turned on. When the ignition switch is turned off the 12v disappears.

Is this looking as though the ECM is faulty or is there more than I can test with the ECM to make sure it's giving the correct outputs. Been reading through the threads in this forum trying to find an answer but there is a lot of information to go through!

Should have posted an update but got it running a few weeks ago.

Replaced the ignition coil and HT lead, cleaned all connections out with electroclean and tightened a few connections and she fired right up.

Now it's on to all the other issues I have with this third hand machine

Next problem with charging system to tackle, any help would be appreciated.
      New starter solenoid....check
      New Voltage Regulator...check.
Dynamic test to Stator.....bang...pulling like 2 Volts AC
Problem: Without pulling the part out and stranding the vehicle at the shop forever.... I am trying to find the correct stator or at least one that might not be exact for the Massimo Buck 400S, but fit and connect and do the job if that makes sense.... if anyone has any ideas, please shoot them my way.

I just purchased a 2023 Honda Pioneer a couple of weeks ago and had the hard roof and a front Honda Pioneer windshield installed at the shop before taking ownership. As things are drying up here in NC, the grass and dust are beginning to fly right through the back of the cab while driving. I was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations on rear windshields, dust panels, or mesh screens to help stop this?
      Thanks a lot!

Hi, I purchased a used Cub Cadet 750 Challenger that seemed like the belt was slipping so I put a new belt in.  It still acts like the belt is slipping but now I am thinking it is the clutch?
What is the best way to remedy this problem?
      Can the clutch be rebuilt?
      Are there aftermarket clutches available?

I heard there's several off road festivals out that way. One or two post apocalyptic, the rest just rev and run. Anyone know a good one that offers camping? Any advice for out of state people like hauling, legality, and where to stay?
Ideally me and the missus would be down for camping out and setting up shop somewhere nearby. That way we can just wake up, load up, and ride.

I recently purchased a 2019 or 2020 (no manual) Massimo 400S Buck Series UTV.  It ran fine for a couple days but the low battery light was flashing while it drove.  It then died in the field one day and I was able to jump the battery and get it rolling enough to get back to the barn.  It started both times I turned the key for a couple days after and when driven died 10 minutes later in the driveway.  Even after jumping it had no juice, but with the key out of the ignition it kept trying to start, a quick look on the Google machine and it suggested starter solenoid or ignition switch was the culprit.  Fair enough, let's just order a replacement solenoid, right?  No way Jose....the pin connector on the UTV is a 2-pin white plastic connector and the part received is a 4 pin.  How do I swap that and make it work?  Can I even?  Where do I find correct parts in the future?
