Anyone running oversized tireT- boss 550

Recommended Posts

My only comments is why, what is the appeal:

Is it the 8% less torque to the ground, plus power lost due to higher rotational mass--the 27s, just the tires,  will weigh 8 to 10 lbs more each; the wheels another 4 to5 lbs. each--(probably another 47, so -12% in total)?

The 5% speedometer error (it will read slow vs actual speed)?

Re: spacers;

Is it the added stress to the axle bearings and all other suspension components?

Higher unsprung weight (12 to 15 lbs. per corner) guaranteed to deteriorate handling and ride;

Or that they will "look real cool"/

They look great but other than looking cool, I dont see the need.. Like Cliff says ,you will lose torque from the reduction of gear ratio........ Wider  tires , sure.. taller , nah... besides I run on some  State Wildlife Management trails.. Wheel size and lug depth are limited by regulations but width is not.. And they enforce it rigorously ,so ........ But if you dig it, by all means go for it dude.. Its yours ..light em up

Thanks for the reply. I ride a handful of times a year in the Ozark mountains where I constantly have issue with big rocks hitting the skid plate and a few off camber situations. My plan is to only run the bigger tires and spacers for these rides and keep the stock wheels as is for around the house applications.  I feel like it will hold up for 40-50miles at a time 3-4 times a year. Just seeing if anyone has issues or experience with these

Update. Installed 27x9x12 in front and 27x11x12 in rear. No spacer required to gain clearance and  no noticeable impact to steering/ handling. Slight impact on stopping power at higher speeds. Did gain 1 1/2in extra clearance in front and back. I’ll update as issues arise that I feel relate to this.

      Since it is a royal pain to close the front hood, I went to add a charger wire so I don't  have to worry about the hood, I found the screw on the positive post rusted .  this utv is 11 months old. and since it's a Philips head, it was impossible to loosen . had to use vise grips.
      replaced the screw with an hex bolt

      We see a lot of the UT400 with shift problems, not going into gear, popping out of gear, grinding etc. There  is a bulletin Im sure everyone has saw about adjusting shift cable.  That dont always fix it.  I went round n round with coleman  on couple units. We are a Coleman warranty repair center"AFS Small Engine Repair "   I told them shift lever does not have enough travel .  No amount of cable adjustment  will increase travel . I  extended lever with piece on flat  iron by 3/4 of inch .  This gave shifter enough travel to properly engage into gear completely .  Last couple units to come in for this Coleman sent me a modified shift lever, with longer travel . Problem solved! Also , heads up if you get any new unit ,,,go over and check it out,  grease  all zerks, check air filter for being in backwards, check wiring harnesses for rubbing on rotating parts,  brake hose  routing , make sure not touching exhaust .  These are just  few of the more common failures I see .

      Got a new 2023 TBoss 560 with 40 miles on it now. Noticed after about and hour of plowing snow coolant started hissing out the overflow tube. Initially made a pop or blow kind of noise and then saw some steam and smelt coolant. Coolent level is in the middle between low and high (running or not). Coolant under radiator cap is full when cold, appears nice and green. Checked oil doesn’t look milky. The temp ranges from 160-180 F running for 15-20. Noticed the other day there was some more coolant that blew out the overflow tube. I called the dealer and they said the system could be purging air. Dealer is 2+ hours away so wanting to get more thoughts before considering to bring it in. Also noticing hot/burning rubber smell but I think this is from the belt breaking in? Also notice the coolant smell from the exhaust when in higher RPMs. No white smoke from the exhaust. Also another possible issue. I notice that there’s a little bounce when on pavement. You can also hear the CVT kind of make noise with this bounce in tandem. Is this normal?
