2021 Hisun Sector E1 Just Stops - No Error but no drive

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a brand new Hisun Sector E1 that I got in March-April timeframe. Its got about 100 miles on it. I was driving it yesterday among some tall grass on one of my hills when it just complete stopped moving. Pressing the accelerator and nothing. I put it in reverse, nothing. I tried in 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive, locked and unlocked. Nothing. I put it in neutral, turned the ignition off and started it again and was able to drive forward about 20-30 feet and it stopped again. No errors. No 45C message, nothing. Just completely unresponsive. I had to "limp" all the way home by turning it on and off to get home. That 30 feet or so that it would travel was full power, I could push it hard or take it gently and it would still cut out on me. Its super bizarre. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on? I'm no electrician...I thought buying a sector E1 would require less work from me than an ICE vehicle, it appears I was wrong. I'm 2 hours from the nearest distributor so pretty worried about getting it serviced.

Check all the battery terminal connections.  To ensure you dont cause too many problems, use the big red cut out to split the pack and ensure the circuit is unable to be complete. Follow the circuit from the negative end on the Sevcon controller, through all of the batteries, the big red cut out, and then through the contactor to the Sevcon + becareful dont touch the =+and - and dont drop any metal tools onto the battery terminals.  Add a bit of safety and wrap your spanner with insulating tape. Only have one end  open. Check the 3 connections from the sevcon to the motor. Check each battery voltage as you go.  Again start at the negative end of the pack. Note the voltages.  Put them on here.

i just this replied to another thread. We had the same issues, plus the 4x4 actuator failed. Resolved, but it took a load of effort to get Hisun to clean out the rats nest in Texas. Should be better now. Call Jamie Cheek, the guy who cleaned house. Good luck, and please post your results. Cheers.

Hisun still keeps them close to the vest. GORJ posted a diagram above. It helped me a bit in troubleshooting. It did not reveal the problem. My issue was a failed battery pack that the onboard software did not detect. After a friendly call from my legal department, Hisun looked closer at the problem. Mr Sun sent in his troubleshooter, Jamie Cheek ( 214 542-3760) who fired several “engineers” at the Texas plant ( hard to believe the emails those guys sent to me and my dealer), and sent my dealer a fresh battery pack and software update. The machine has been flawless since. It was a five month ordeal.

Ours is a 2019 model, but discovered to have been built in 2017. So the battery pack might have been dead before it got sold. The software upgrade was not specced, but we notice several subtle differences in the panel interface. All are big improvements. I hope your issues are resolved quickly. It really is a capable machine.

Interesting words the dealer has used. There is no main board. The sevcon motor controller is the only device thats involved with the drive system (other than switches and throttle etc. ) Its not a servicable  item, except by the makers,  so not a board replacement.

It will be interesting to see the outcome. You actually get very few sevcon failures., You do however get a lot of faults caused by poor but not totally duff batteries. Rangers use the same make of controller, and like the slightly larger version they use  the sevcon in the E1 is normally made in Poland.

Its actually fairly straighforward to diagnose faults with the Sevcon, but you do need specific kit (IXXAT Can compact ) and software, DVT (the latter is licenced from Sevcon) to talk to the Sevcon, No other kit is supported by the software, which does allow you to change parameters, load the configuration files and download etc.

Do let us know what the outcome was. And how many batteries they end up replacing.

I apologize, the wording I used above was incorrect. Again, I'm not a technical person so this is a little far afield for me. I spoke with them this morning and they are still awaiting the parts from Hisun but it was actually the "main contactor assembly" that they feel is defective.  The parts should be arriving this week so hopefully we'll know more soon.

Main contactor is one part, Its what connects the battery pack to the main Sevcon, . You turn on the ign,  that puts pack voltage to the Sevcon, if all OK the sevcon then turns on the main contactor connecting itself to the main pack. If there is a fault with  the contactor (actually fairly rare) then you get either a brief drive or no drive at all. You would have got a fault come up on the main display if it was a contactor fault. If the sevcon doesnt see voltage after turning on the main contactor, it throws a fault, if the contactor has a fault giving poor voltage under load it will also give a fault code.

As a point the make of contactor (Allbright) are actually a decent high quality part. Much more reliable than the ones used by Polaris to do the same job.

I have a Hisun EV , Stuck in LOW gear. Dealer said it kind of fixed itself. After diconnecting wires and putting back together it was working fine.

Picked it up and appeared to be good. Within 5 minutes after getting home stuck in LOW gear again,

Purchased 9/22/2021 shouldn't this be warranty?

The L M H is simply a switch that tells the Sevcon Motor controller, by connecting different sets of contacts on the controller  what set of parameters to follow, ie low is lots of torque with lowest RPM H is lowest Torque and Highest RPM.

The fault is likely to be a simple cable or switch fault, if neither M or H work then its suggesting a common issue so likely to be the common wire they work from as the common return wire. . I would consider this a warranty issue. and should be fairly straightforward to trace the fault, if the person doing the fault finding understands what they are doing.

I would suggest you contact Hisun In Texas  as the dealer has failed to sort the problem, so contacting them directly isnt unreasonable.  They may refer it back to the dealer, but hopefully with some additional guidance for them to follow.

Spent today at a Honda dealership looking at their 520 side by side, then on the way home past our Lowes noticed they had several new UTVs on site, so we U-turned and ducked in there. We were impressed that all that came for $9,999 metal whole length skid plate, nice sized bed, roof, windshield, side mirrors, winch, upgrade looking tires… all of which would have added thousands of dollars to an already expensive Honda 520. Now Honda does have a great reputation from my trusted UTV experienced buddy, so it has that going for it.

Hey guys! Newbie here. I'm an old man who's better with plowing a mule (4-legged kind) than these newfangled beasts. I, and a friend of mine, just bought new Coleman sxs and are having to finish the assembly. I've been reading on this site and I'm falling on the mercy of you experts. The only way I'm an expert is that an "ex" is a has been, and a spurt is a drip under pressure. LOL First off, the 2 buggies have no ignition switches. They seem to mount on the dash, not the opening in the steering wheel shaft cover, so we ordered new ones that are supposed to fit. They are 8 inches long, and have a 4-wired white plugin which is slightly rectangled when looking at the end of the plug. The trouble is there's nothing to plug into. There is a three-wire grey plug close enough to reach the four-wire plug, but of course, they are not compatible.
Secondly, the blinker, light, ect. unit on steering wheel just spins around when touched. I see no way in heaven or earth to secure it. I've looked at a diagram on the Powersports site, but can't detect how it mounted. Fellows I'd be so grateful for any help with this. Me and my mule will even plow your garden for free, for your help. LOL

Mine is overheated/burned/melt at connection with its wire connector, parts are ordered to replace both them.  This seems to be a common issue, and some of you already replaced it. I right now just connect the wires, so the fan runs  all the time whenever the initiation is on, but it's better let fan runs as needed with a working temperature sensor/switch.
Question: Does some coolant come out by removing the switch/sensor from radiator?  Or, is the threaded hole all the way inside radiator?   If the answer is yes,  I want to drain or extract  some coolant to make its level below the sensor before replacing it, so I don't make a mess with coolant spilled out
      Thank you.

Less than 40 miles can barely start. Dealer is working with Hisun on a number of other issues on this UTV. Can not get clear info on the meaning of these E codes this is getting. Anybody have some clear info for me?
