Okay I see what you mean. In your case I would tape them off before spraying so you could still have access. Another great option is to go to tractor supply and buy one 6'x4' horse mat. I believe there are two thicknesses. Use cardboard to complete a template and cut it to fit on the floor of your bed. It will significantly protect the bed. It may be a better option in your case. A good impact socket set with breaker bars and a hijack type jack is always a good thing to have.
The only problem I had with mine within the same issue realm is the brake pedal would go to the ground. I thought at first it was a master cylinder. It turns out the brakes were never bled properly from the factory or dealer. I bled the brakes and they have been without issues since.

If so, does it eliminate the safety lock? Does it work well?

Yes it is much better then the factory option Kioti offers. They break off once you hit a tree branch. Very poor design! But this option works very well.
