  1. I am looking to upgrade or replace the factory muffler on my T2. Im not necessarily looking to increase performance, I just really want to quiet it as much as possible. I ran across this item online:

Muffler for Trooper T2 [Muffler - 1100cc T2] - $180.00 : Va Dune Buggy, Big Go Karts For The Big Kid In All Of Us.

Anyone have knowledge or experience with this product? I dont want to be doing a bunch of hacking so am looking for something more or less bolt on or minimal modification.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    /gutwrencher

I just got the one joyner has on ebay this past week,i am currently trying this weekend.quiets it down maybe 30%.slips right over tailpipe and used a u-bolt clamp.total cost was about $25-30 bucks.I think they even droped the price.

  2. Use to be GREAT! I started going in the early 70's with my dune buggys. Now too many people. Be careful, people run into each other out there & get big time hurt.

Yea I have heard that also.We are actually going a little north of that at a campground that has access to the trails.Supposed to be hundreds of miles of em and one is supposed to go all the way to the colorado river.Just going to go on the trails and head down to the dunes for a half day ride to check it out.Like you said too many people.

  3. IPLEX, is out of business as of November last year. Pulled down by the economy and an interest they had with Chrysler that went bad. So T.J USA as we know it is a gone Burger. They are trying the un-load as much stock & parts as they can before the courts put a freeze on there assets. Be careful of buying anything through their E-bay store or over the phone. Once they have your money you are in limbo until you receive the products. If the courts intervene in-between receiving your $ and sending it out, you will have to stand in line to get it back. Order directly through your local dealers or go down to H.Q and exchange money for goods on the spot. Support your dealer because he is the one that is still trying to stay in business and they will need turn over to stay that way.

    Cheers Mike.

How or will this effect TJ Canada? Are they in the same Boat? just curious.

  4. thanks for all the info guys. i,ll take your suggestions and try them. the group i ride with are big into dessert racing. infact we host uor own race 2nd weekend in august. so we'll get this figured out, when we do i'll be sure to post it. by the way we don,t have a utv class for race YET.

I had the same problem and might have posted such here.I noticed after engine warmup idle would drop to about 750-800 rpm and manual says 950 +/- 50.I adjusted to 950 and ever since no need to give it gas while starting,it starts right up with the turn of the key.I am sure that is not going to solve everyones problem but it worked it my case.

  5. The Last Time the site was done and came back up, I tried to encourage the same thing. Was not very successful so I have a hard copy, print out, of any info I do not want to lose. Never could get anyone to step-up and put together & maintain a contact list. Volunteer?

I will do what I can, how do you suggest it to be done?

  6. Wow! that was close.

With all the speculation on the demise of Joyner I was worried that our most valuable resource, that's all of you, would be lost when the board went down. We need to put together a member list just in case that happens.

I haven't explored all the capabilities of the existing board, maybe this information is already here. If so, please tell me where to find it.

    Gumball

I will go for that. while it was down I was having withdraws.I kept checking numerous times every day.I am just glad it is back up and willing to participate in whatever means anyone comes up with to keep in toch should this happen again.

I just want t thank everyone for all the good advise and tips they have given me since becoming a Joyner owner.

  7. He is in Phoenix but this gentleman told me he bought these directly from the bank not Joyner. They are new but no warranty since they didn't come from Joyner. he stressed the fact that they were not from Joyner.

He was really nice and helpful.

His adds on ebay in bold letters say "FACTORY BLOW OUT PRICES".Whatever the case might be Joyner has droped prices on the items they had on ebay in the ATV Parts section.

  8. I just call and spoke to a gentleman who has T2's listed on Ebay, he purchased these units from the Bank there is no warranty. I asked him if Joyner was out of business and he wasn't sure however he was told that 2009 was the last model year for Joyner.

Was this guy in Phoenix? if so it was the one i mentioned earlier who has been at joyner buying their assembled stock of everything, his name is John,I was told this morning besides the number he already has in stock that he purchased recently from joyner he has another shipment coming on friday of 15 units or more.

  9. I have been at Joyner Tuesday and the doors are still open but not for long. They are taking inventory on Friday. I have purchased a bunch of parts. If you talk to Allan he will give you a deal on parts if he has lots of the part in stock. Toy Junkies is also buying up a bunch of parts.TOYJUNKIES phone number is 480-813-0273. 3164 S Country Club Dr. Mesa AZ, 85210. He said he will be trying to change over sensors part number to USA numbers. Seems like a very nice guy and said he would help us out. You can still buy parts internationally, UK is one of them. They also said that there was someone looking at the place but are not saying too much about it. I hope this information will help you out. I am lucky as they are about a 1 and 1/2 away from my winter home. Snowbird

Just spoke to the place I mentioned I purchased mine from.I guess this guy has been over there about every day and has purchased near all the assembled stock they had.I too have been in contact with Alan at Joyner last week and he was quick to respond but since Friday he has not returned calls or emails.

  10. Just found the surplus Joyners form HQ for sale on Ebay. Troopers are listed in the $7,000. They have also listed some parts so if there is something you need check Ebay. I made a offer on a couple of wheels and was rejected. I also notice the big Joyner Dealer in Texas must have been given a heads up because they have lowered the prices on their modified Joyners, a lot! Looks like everyone is trying to dump their stock before the public finds out and they are stuck with it. Sad!

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

I have been checking ebay every couple days or so since I purchased my trooper and there has been a few more Joyners as well as parts listed recently but really not that many. The place I purchased mine from in December has listed a few more than what he had on there a few days ago.He is the one you will find listing in Phoenix.

  11. Took my Trooper out for the 2nd time this weekend. All was well for a short time and all of a sudden while cruising along on level ground it just started lossing power. The more I pressed on the gas the worse it got and just about came to a stop.If I down shifted and wound it pretty high in gear she flew wih no problem but if i shifted to the next gear it would just slow down and again almost stop.I checked the air cleaner and fuel filter as well as the fuel pressure and all was okay.Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

Just aquestion on this topic, I have been checking things out and came across that the valve for the charcoal canister does not appear to be working. As stated in the manual I checked voltage on the two plug posts to the valve. It says there should be 12 volts. When doing so I only got about 2.76 volts. If I check it with the positive wire to ground i get over 13 volts. It got to dark to do any more today but from what i found so far i think it might be the ground wire.I have two questions. How does this effect the over all running of the engine? Also would it be okay to run a wire straight to the block as a ground and up to the ground side of the plug just to see if the valve works.I think the current ground wire comes from the ECU so I am asking first so that I wont do damage to the ECU.

    Thanks,

  12. I registered a '82 Suzuki I bought new and raced for years last Jan '09. Later because of how I registered it, a notice came for proof of Insurance. I wrote DMV stating that I ride it only on my own property and I would not be insuring it. I heard nothing in return and assumed everything was fine. I have decided to get a OHV sticker for it and was charged a $52 penalty. So beware, once registered they expect you to stay on top of the registration even if use is only on your own property. Good News is OHV is purchased and now visitors have a bike to ride.

Glad to hear that. I will be down your way the middle of March for some pre-season baseball games(LOL).

  13. Does anyone else have insurance on their Trooper? Mine is up for renewal, $212/yr for full coverage & max $ amounts. Required in AZ if you drive on the street. Also who with? I am with Foremost Insurance, the only one so far to insure it.

    Thanks,

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

I got mine through who I thought was your agent,Marc Fischer? Mine is a little over $300 a year.

  14. A code reader for a car will not work for the Trooper. The code reader for this is a stand alone item and about 2 grand. If you have a good dealer near by they might have one but other then that i would try what Lenny has said he is the man when it comes to this thing!

Yea I already started following his advise. We have been under water here in Southern Ca the last few days so have not been able to do much. Thanks for the info on the code reader,I was going nuts looking for the connection spot.

    Thanks again,

  15. There are a few things that happen. When the exhaust goes around the square corner it creates turbulence which reaches back into the main stream of exhaust adding resistance. The whole idea is to have the flow of exhaust be as laminar as possible which is the most efficient way to move it. Also, an engine without any exhust pipes will not run as good as one with proper exhaust. The exhaust has inertia as it's traveling out. With the exhaust being contained in the exhaust tube, as the piston finishes pushing out the exhaust, this inertia helps to create a pressure drop at the exhaust port which helps to scavenge more exhaust gas out of the cylinder. Without the pipes, this doesn't happen. Yes, it would be better if the exhaust tubes matched the ports in size. There is actually a formula to determine the tube size based on a lot of factors including where you want your peak power or torque to be. On a two cycle engine you will see the exhaust pipe come out then expand rapidly to just taper back down and finish with a small pipe (called stinger). Exhaust comes out, expands to suck the cylinder cleaner of exhaust gas then compacts quickly to create a reverb of pressure back at the engine to shove some gas back into the cylinder. See, on a two cycle, it can scavenge enough to pull out some of the intake air/gas mixture into the exhaust pipe before the piston closes off the cylinder side wall port. This allows for an extra shot of gas/air mixture but because it is in the exhaust port, the back pressure reverb shoves it back into the cylinder just in time. Again, the pipe geometry all change depending on which RPM you want peak torque or power.

    Lenny

    Lenny,

I am just curious as to why you had to tear your engine down.Hope it is nothing serious.

  16. The speed sensor is on the rear part of the left side of the transmission. The engine speed sensor is on the rear right side of the transmission. The sensor on the left front of the head is for reading the cam position. The throttle position sensor is on the bottom side of the throttle body and the IAC (idle air control) is on the side of the throttle body. The air oxygen ratio sensor is on the exhaust manifold. There are 2 of them, one before and one after the catalytic converter. The MAP sensor (mass air flow) is on the intake manifold and there should also be a air temp sensor someplace on the intake too. I can't tell you where anymore as mine is all changed around. There are a couple of others that I can't think of right now. It does go through the list of them in the online manual starting with chapter one page 109. Most of these sensors can be tested with a multi meter. The whole thing is a bit of a learning curve but if you research each item in Google it shouldn't be too hard to find how to test them. Just type in something like "Testing MAP sensor". What the code reader will do for you as Rocmoc sujested is tell you which sensor is not working if any. But that takes a code reader. I'll be testing all of mine upon reassemble and probably change a couple to wide band sensors. Good luck.

    Lenny

Thanks Lenny and Rocmoc,i have a code reader but have searched for the connection and have not found it.The manual says its under the fuse box but its not there.I have found a couple small connectors, maybe two or three wire that does not go anywhere but not the connection for my code reader. What about the poping or backfireing when in gear and releasing the accelerator, getting a popping as the vehicle slows while in gear. Thanks again,

  17. When starting Cold with my Trooper;

Sounds like your Trooper acts like mine when started.

    Loss of power;

Try leaving the gas filler lid loose or off. Maybe the returns are plugged some way. Could be a speed sensor? I think no one has responded because you are the first to have this problem and no one has a solution.

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Do you have to rev it for a short time before it will idle on its own?

    Where is the speed sensor?

    Thanks Rocmoc,I appreciate it.

  18. Thanks,

I had no respnse to this so I thought I would bring it up again.I still have not found the problem.Prior to taking it out this weekend I followed just about all the suggestions I could find on this forum from other topics regarding simular symtoms including, checking fuses, dia electric grease on connections, sensor wires rubbing bare on fan shroud, fuel filter, fuel pump and it still did the same thing. If anyone has any other suggestions I will be happy to try them.

Also have another question. When starting when engine is cold should it start right up and idle without pressing on gas? mine will not start without pressing on gas and will not idle without holding on accelerator for about 15 seconds or so,it dies out.I am comparing to a regular car here when I turn on my truck even when cold it starts up and idles without pressing on the accelerator.

    Thanks in advance,

  19. Spark Arrester I purchased off of Ebay, it was for a VW.

Muffler is a CherryBomb quiet muffler. Can be purchased at major parts house or muffler shop. Same for the 90 degree sweep tubing, clamps & hanger.

Sorry but another question. What did you do about the sensor that was in the stock muffler?

    Thanks,

  20. Ain't going to happen in Cal without getting plates in another state first. Even then it may not work as it may fail the inspection when trying to get the plate. And after, every Police Officer that sees you is going to pull you over. JMHO!

    Best thing is to leave!

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

I do have plates for mine in Arizona. The main reason I would like to get it licensed in Ca is to be able to go on trails that Ca says only street licensed 4x4's can go on.
