  1. How about fuel, whar are you guys running that are having the power loss problem? I run plain old premium pump gas.

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

I run plain old premium also,92 octain.I have run 89 once but same problem.

  2. I really didnt like how the steering wheel felt when i was driving my T2 felt like i was reaching for it so i cut off the mount on the column took i die grinder and ate the slot in the dash down farther made a new bracket dropped it down like 3-4 inches it feels great now , i didnt like how the clutch and brake pedal was either it didnt feel like i had enough foot room to pick up my feet just to push the clutch or brake in so i cut out bout 2-3 inches on the horizontal part of the pedal and welded them back together and belive me feels like a totally new machine made it alot more comfortable with them two mods

I kinda felt the same way as far as the leg room goes.I removed my seats and drilled new holes and moved em back about 2 inches.

  3. Checked my O2 sensors today, they were both good, Seimans VDO 5WY3173A with 7M12 stamped on the shoulder of the 22mm hex head.

Learned something I thought was interesting, when cold, the white lead for power measure about 6 ohms and the sensor lead measure open. If you power it up 12 volts, it draws 2 amps. As it was heating up, I was measuring resistance and saw the resistance go from open to zero to negative. That only happens when you are measuring a voltage with your meter on resistance.

The output appears to be a voltage from about .65 volts to - .025 depending on which way you hook up your leads.

On mine, when in free air or with air from my air compressor blowing on it, it measured -.025 volts, when I lowered into a can with gasoline in it, not into the gas, just above it, the voltage went to .65 volts, when I blew on it, it went close to 0 volts, when exposed to butane gas from a lighter, not lit, the voltage went from -.025 to about -.010, but I don't how much gas I was getting on it, shut have tried a lit lighter, but I didn't think to.

I have been having a tough time starting my Trooper, which is why I was checking the O2 sensors and I pulled the IAC and after cleaning it good, inside and out with brake cleaner fluid, I plugged it back and had my wife turn the key on while I watched the IAC. It ran and moved the "bullet" up so far that I couldn't put it back in. To get it back down, I had to squeeze it while my wife turned the key on and off several times, I could keep it from coming out any further, but couldn't get it to go back in until I opened the throttle and blocked it open. Then it backed off and I installed it.

After I got my Trooper running, warmed up, driven around some, and parked in the garage, I unplugged the IAC to see if it starts up OK after it cools and has set for a while. If it does, I'll cover the terminal and leave it that way.

around here if you blow on it and it goes above .08 it means your above the legal limit(LOL)

  4. I just changed both of my sensors. I used a Bosch #13007 from Checkers for $89 then bought the second one, same bosch from NAPA for $74. If you have to change them, you will probably have to put the old connector on the new one. That is what I did, The 2 white wires on the new connector are the 12v heater wires. Use a meter to find the two 12 volt DC wires commng from the computer. Check this at the plug for the O2 sensor, not the one on the sensor it self. You can have the sensor unplugged for this and you must have the ignition on. Once established, cut and splice the 12v leads to the two white wires on the new sensor. Then hook the Grey to the grey and the black to the white and youir done. Unless you can find a auto parts dealer willing to sit and go through boxes, you will not find the same plug and even then you may not

    Lenny

Just checked with auto zone for the bosch 02 sensor. They have it for $59.99.plug looks almost the same, wont know till i go to install it.

    Thanks,

  5. Here's a thought for you, how much gas do you have in you tank when this happens, It may be uncovering your intakes momentarily with deceleration or down hill. There is a good thread about this problem, and maybe it's why you're losing power some times and not other, plenty of fuel versus low fuel. The final good ideas didn't come out until around post 89 --- Fuel Tanks & Mods - UTV BOARD - Side X Side and UTV Forum - Page 5 --- The surge tank and 2nd pump, even if the surge tank is only a 1/2 gallon or so, mine is over a gallon and a 1/2. I'm almost sure the fuel pump runs all the time the motor is running, I don't know if it's triggered by the alternator or some other sensor, as suggested earlier.

    kinarfi

I have seen the thread but It has done it with tank full, half full you name it.And when it has done it it has been on level ground and incline, doesnt seem to matter.

  6. If it is not Lenny's idea, just had another thought.

Is anyone with the original tank in front, the first version of fuel tank, having this problem? My tank is the front mount and no problem, YET! Because of my tank location, the fuel system is always under pressure even if it is ever so small a pressure. The pump is not sucking from a dry source, the fuel is always there. My fuel pump is below the fuel in the tank.

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

So far only found two of us with the problem and mine is a T-4 and I think gates98 is also.My pump is above the tank but if that was the cause seems like this would be an issue with all T-4's.I did move the filter past the pump from before the pump as was suggested but still have the problem. My next attempt to resolve this issue will be to replace the battery terminal clamps, install a better ground, and replace the two 02 Sensors.Wont be able to do that until next weekend, got it in garage in Havasu and thats my next planed trip.

  7. yes it does if i push in the clutch mash it out one time then it is ok for a lil while it just seems like it does it whenever it wants i tried different things tryin to cause it but it wont do it

sounds like you and i have the same issue.funny there has been a couple times where i went for a 3 or 4 hour ride and it would not do it.

  8. Thanks Rick, that rules out one possible cause. Will be interesting when the cause is finally found. Will be of great value to the rest of us as sooner of later we may end up with this problem. Maybe you could borrow someone's sensor near you to see if that is the problem.

Did you check with Jarad on this site to see if he has one?

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

I have not checked with him,not sure who he is.Casey said and 02 Sensor for a 4 cylinder engine would work.Does that sound right?

  9. Don't think it is a ground problem. Sensor or Computer more likely! You may have to slowly but carefully change out each until the bad component is found. This may require changing one out and driving it for a while as intermittent problems are hard to find. Won't be able to just change one out and start up the Trooper up and move on to the next one. Shops hate this kind of stuff!

Have or were the Troopers having this problem used in wet weather, water crossings or Washed / Cleaned? Maybe we can find a correlation with dampness and the problem. I rarely clean and if I do carefully my Trooper with water. Live in a very dry climate with few if any water crossings. I'm not having any of these problem. IMHO the Trooper is not water tight enough for use in weather or washings.

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

Not water related.Had it snce only 7 miles on it and problem started second trip out and it had not been subject to water.Like you when i have cleaned it i have been very careful with the water and i too drive it in dry climate,Havasu mainly.I am looking for the 02 sensor replacement as that was recommended by Casey at joyner.

  10. Again I really need to stress.... change the battery cable post clamps. The Originals are very cheap and break easily, not to mention the material they are made of does not conduct electricity well at all.

    A.

    I will do that also,thanks

  11. While there are multiple grounds in the system, they are part of specific circuits. Also, just because there are some gounds already attached, that does not mean that they are effective. All I was suggesting was an additional..... seperate from factory Joyner.... that is marginal at best.... to be POSITIVE about a sufficient ground.

    A.

worth a shot, cheap and easy to do.got nothing but a little time to lose.

  12. You might want to check all of your sensors. The manual shows how. You can also get information from a google search. One thing you want to remember is that if the computer sees something wrong it will go into limp home mode. Not much power but it runs. If you had a sensor that was intermittent, It could send the computer into limp home. When It does it, try turning off the main power switch behind the seat. The computer should reset and eliminate the fault code. However if what caused the fault to begin with is still there, the computer would go right back to limp home. Each time it does it, cut the main power. Maybe you will find that sometimes it will work which would lead me to think an intermittent sensor or intermittent wiring problem existed. Finding a wiring problem could be tough with the way these things are wired. That's why I completely tore out all my wiring and redid all if it. Now I know whats what and what goes where and can check and trace things thing easily. LOL

    Lenny

done that too lenny, when it does it i sometimes have to shut the battery switch off before it runs normal and then again there has been times that has not worked.

  13. how long is... "a while" ?

    A.

sometimes it will act up again in a few minutes.but most of the time it will run good for a long time.recently i have been out for a few hours more afterwards and it wont act up at all.

  14. Leaded gas will destroy your oxygen sensors.

    Lenny

will 100 octane unleaded do any damage? any ideas on replacement 02 sensors? gotta look for some, I was told to replace if they were the japanese made ones and mine are.

  15. Does your 100 octane race fuel have a blue tint to it? If so, it's probably 100 LL (low lead) aviation fuel. That's what I used in my 100 HP Rotax motor, Rotax said no lead gas and I thought that was I was getting from the gas station sold 100 octane gas, but I finally got them to confess that it was 100LL avgas which has a light blue tint, Quite pretty actually. By coincidence, the Rotax was on the airplane that I crashed in 2006.

Another interesting thing I did once, I put some 130 octane avgas in my 2 stroke dirt bike once, expecting to have fantastic power, NOPE, when ever I tried to rev up, it fell on it's face, but talk about low end grunt, that was fantastic.

During my aviation training, I was taught the the higher to octane, the slower the burn, to prevent detonation and knocking, and when you consider maximum RPM in a piston air plane engine is on around 2500, and they are short stoked huge pistons, it makes sense.

    Kinarfi

Interesting.I thought a few times about the 100 octane in my trooper but was not sure what would happen.I dont have a turbo its just readily available in Lake Havasu because of all the high performance boats on the lake.

  16. i have a fuel leak around the sending unit on my trooper went to make sure bolts were tight and 2 of them was stripped out any suggestions

I had the same problem.I removed the tank to clean it out so at that time I used larger diameter self drilling screws and a oil/fuel resistant sealant on both sides of the rubber gasket.Cleaned out tank real good and no problem since.

  17. i email them for parts they said they order parts i need trans for 1100 still waiting for prices.so if hard to get price what about parts.all i need is input shaft

try calling Casey.I know he had a bunch of trans parts for sale a few weeks ago.I bought a whole new trans from him along with other things when i went down there a few weeks ago just as a spare.

  18. mine is doin the same thing with the losing power stuff but its not all the time

    Gates,

I am still having the problem. If you stop and rev it up a little does it go away at least for a while? Also if i turn off the battery disconnect it fixes it for a while.I have checked many things as well as changing plugs.I was recently told by an ex joyner employee to check the 02 sensors to see if they are the japanese type,if so should change them.just checked them this moring and appears they are so next thing will be changing them.
