2014 Kawasaki Mule Brake Adjustment - Hand Controls

Unusual topic, I guess.

I'm unable to walk and just had hand controls installed on my new Mule.

I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the brakes (freeplay, hydraulics, etc) to increase "responsiveness" of brakes. I need them to engage more quickly. In other words, I have to really lay on the hand controls hard to get the brakes to activate. The brake pedal (via the hand control) has to move quite a distance before the brakes start to engage (and I am unable to lock them up). I guess I need to make the brakes more "touchy". The hand control system is far from perfect, but it's all I've got.

Any thoughts?

I'm using Sure-Grip Left Hand "Push Rock" Hand Controls (SG-R100). Great product.

The throttle side works flawlessly (you pull the lever to actuate). The brake side, however, requires the operator to "push" the lever "down" (toward the floor/front axle). This takes some force since you are trying to move the brake pedal forward quite a distance using a downward force with "not-quite-enough-leverage" (at least for me). I'm trying to figure out how to get the brakes to engage more quickly with a bit less force/forward movement.

KC, I would have the brake shoes adjusted out to cause a little more drag and if extending the hand lever" make it longer " if that's an option should make it a little easier for you.

I agree you have to adjust the brake shoe to get the appropriate brake level you want. That is the only way to properly adjust the thing.

If I'm understanding this correctly. It sounds like you're trying to accomplish the same job with your upper body, that's typically done with the much stronger muscles of the lower body. Some kind of leverage is needed. Have you contacted the manufacturer of this kit? Maybe they've seen this before, and could help. In the meantime, how about using the parking brake at the same time, while braking? Or maybe adjusting the engine brake, or a combination of all the above?

      Mule will not start. Turns over like crazy. Replaced plugs,oil is good.Does have one year old fuel filter. Has one year old filters pretty much throughout. Thinking maybe fuel issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

      Dipstick shows pale color, dont think its water, smells like fuel, oil changed one week ago, level is very high.
      First I thought it was water condensed into the oil...but someone pointed out the smell, and it doesn't look white-milky. And a half qt or so in one week?
      So is it possible to get fuel leaking into the oil?

      Kind of blurry, took it with one hand. It looks better in person. It may not be professional quality but im 99.99999999999999999% sure it will work.
      Did better than I thought i would.
       
      So now, only ONE more obstacle. the crankshaft axial play adjustment BUT
      I need someones opinion ( i took the piston back out afterwards) not sure if you can see it, but in the picture with cylinder honed, it's almost right where the  glare from the light is, and on top of the cylinder directly across from the spot, it looks like the hone didn't get ruffed up.  any ideas? out of round cylinder, cylinder wore and needs bored??

      I have acquired an older Kawasaki Mule 2010 with KAF 540C engine.  The engine is shot so I have the option to either rebuild or replace.  I am thinking a swap to a three cyl diesel out of a Toro mower.  Anyone tried this?  The only reason I am considering this is because I have the mower which is inoperable.  The engine runs great so just wondering if this swap would be feasible?????
