Less ethanol in the premium, so it's easier on the carburetor.

but there is no reason not use regular 87. Although some utvs can knock for some reason if you use the wrong gas.

We've ran 87 in the mule since it was new. Never had any problems.

Knocking is detonation caused by fuel that burns to quickly for the engine. High compression engines need slower burn for their pistons extra travel. Knocking can damage engines, modern knock sensors adjust the timing so this does not occur. I only use premium in my small engines, no ethanol to eat fuel lines.
