  1. I agree, we need to settle on dates and location soon and then leave it alone so plans can get under way. Especially for Brostar who has a much more complicated logistics to attend. Either placeis fine with Jeanne and I but I do think we need to stay away from any holiday week ends.

    Lenny

lenny, you are right.Im not positive but i think the weekend after our dates is easter,if we do decide on the koa we should reserve soon to avoid the people that might be planing on staying from our weekend to the next.

  2. We are talking about Superstition just NorthWest of El Centro, CA., http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/trails/info/california_05663/ride_562e.htm This area has a trail that was picked as one of BF Goodrich Top Trails in USA. Don't know if I would go that far but it is pretty nice. It is all boondocking with lots of space. I drove by there two years ago when I watch a TV Off-Road program featuring the trail and put it on my bucket list of places I had to off-road. Has a mix of Sand Dunes to Hard Pack. VERY easy acess & supplies withing 10 miles should you need anything.

Rick jump in, I not trying to steal you thunder. What ya think?

Also less than a 100 miles from Flatbed. I have his home number and will call him when we finalize.

    rocmoc n AZ

No worries,no thunder to steal. Its all about what the group wants to do.just want to make it clear as to pricing and spaces at koa.Yes individual sites are around 50-55 a night.I think even on those sites if you pay for friday and saturday you will get sunday night for a dollar. That comes out to about 36 bucks a night for the three nights. If you stay thursday through monday morning you pay for the three nights at regular rate(say 55 a night) and then on sunday night you pay a buck and that will end up being about 44 bucks a night for the four nights. On the group sites they are 180 foot long x 55 feet wide with two 30/50 amp power posts, one for each rig.If all want to either boondock in that area or move the jamboree to superstition that also works for me.I do think we need to make that decision soon.

  3. I do a little dirt road with the motorhome but it really is good for it. The air filter takes a beating and cost around $70.

So you are saying we could get two rigs into a single site & four in the group and everyone will have power. Will the park owners let us do that? I don't have a problem sharing the site. We can spread out when we move to the next stop. Well we know I am very vocal, what does everyone else think?

    rocmoc n AZ

yes,two rigs per site with power for each.not sure what you mean by four in the group?? I will have to pull out park map.Maybe you can call and verify your questions.they are closed right now to puplic but open to some full timers there and construction crews so maybe they will answer.

  4. Wow, I just went on the reservation site to check rates. That is one expensive park. Maybe we should stay in Slab City !!!! Rick, don't make any commitment yet so we can all kick this around. Maybe Slab City is an option. Let me do a little searching for Boondocking sites in the area. Rick, do you know of any?

    rocmoc n AZ

group sites and some of the regular sites have two 30/50 amp boxes for each space, accomadates two rigs.slab city is maybe 10 miles or so south along the channel.losts of open space but also lots of boondockers kind of spread out and marked their own territory.I have seen some spots that people boondock back in the trails. They exit the 10 fwy at red cloud road up by carico(wrong spelling) summit and head back into the area.seen toyhaulers and motorhomes bac in there but it is a rough dirt/rock road.will get gps and post.

  5. Hi Rick, Looks like a real nice place there, How much is it to stay per day/night?

not cheap.I havent got group rates yet but they have Pull-thru with Full hookups, 50/30 amp, Cable, WiFi

FACING PATIO group double-sites(180x 55) at $99.79 per night. One price gets you two sites large enough for all RVs.You Split the cost.On that weekend if you pay for two nights(Friday and Saturday) you get Sunday night for $1.00.So if we get enough to get two on each site and split the cost it will be a little over $33 a night.

  6. Ok guys where exactly are we planning to have the jamboree? so I can put it in map quest and get directions. And to see if I can swing this trip, Plus I have 2 troopers and I wouldnt have any problem at all to let Brostar use it, but to get both of them down there is a problem, I can only tow one of them. If someone has a good way to get the 2nd one down there in one peice and back again that will be great. Just let me know ok? it would be nice to get to meet everyone and to go riding ect.

    Thanks Stevozz

Glamis north KOA,its near the Salton Sea.Turn off is 2 miles south of Bombay Beach.web site is www.glamisnorthkoa.com

wish i had an answer for getting your second trooper there.

  7. Didn't take me long after buying my Trooper that I could see it needed things changed. For myself, having a machine shop in my garage and enjoying working on this type of stuff, have had a lot of fun making changes and learned a lot along the way. Would I buy the Trooper again knowing what I know now? Probably not but the RZRs I wanted initially wasn't going to do what I wanted either without a lot of changing. I've come to the conclusion that the other UTVs are fine but I still want the extra width and length for stability and prefer to have about 18-20" of suspension, a good low range and more power. The only way Im going to get what I want is to build one from scratch. It's only a lot of bucks and a lot of time. What the heck, I can't take it with me. Even with my mistakes in life, I'm having a ball and If I wouldn't have bought a Trooper, I wouldn't have met all of you great guys whom I've enjoyed an awful lot. I've done so many things to mine that it is close to being the way it should have been made to begin with. No rattles, no clunks, no sloppy joints or loose bearings, good power and now with good power steering, it's a really nice machine that I don't have to work on much anymore. Darn, what am I going to do now that it's about done except for redoing the roll bar, adding doors and caging the occupants better and a coustom enclosure and .................................................and..... Guess I'm not really done yet. When I am done, I'll find somethoing else to work on. Right now $20,000 won't buy my Trooper. Did the same thing with my little 5th wheel camper and you can't buy it either. I want to build one of those from scratch too.

    Lenny

Just my luck, that was the exact amount I "WAS" going to offer you for it..(LOL)

  8. Thanks to Rick for everything he did with the powersteering find.

Got mine installed & wired. It was turning to the left so I centered while not hooked up to the steering shaft & put it back together. I went for a drive and it decided it wanted to start turning left again, so that was annoying--further ajustment needed there.

Its amazing how effortless the steering is. I was on pavement in 4x4 but never got above 30 MPH. I alway new the 2:1 steering ratio on the Trooper was quick, but the powersteering accentuates it tenfold. It was a little un-nerving how quickly it turned. It will just be something I will have to get used to now. If I don't like it while driving at high speeds I may install a power switch. But, if Banjow Minnow can handle his hydraulic set up at high speeds without Lenny's steering upgrade, then I should be fine. Plus, the added shock absorption that these units have built in should also build my confidence. That said, I can't wait to get out on the Trails and be able to turn with one hand while keeping my other hand on the gear shift.

I mounted mine completely recessed in the dash. I chopped the stock sheering shaft down to where it just protruded out of the pivot bearing and re-welded. Even with that the steering wheel now sits 1" further back than it was. I also lowered the angle of the steering wheel about 10-15 degrees. It now feels more race-car-ish and less bus-driver-ish. I welded their coupler onto our steering shaft on the output side. I just clamped their coupler onto the steering wheel shaft. I am not really happy with that because they are a different spline count, but the only other alternative I feel would be 100% is to weld it, or buy a whole new steering wheel shaft with their spline count.

I will be keeping an eye on it to see if there is any slippage. Besides, on the input side it would take the arm strength of the driver to overpower those splines. The extra power of the powersteering would only be a factor on the output side.

I still have some grinding, cutting, & paint left then I will post picks.

Thank you 2scoops but the credit for the find goes to plumber.I only made some calls to them and arranged the pricing, which not they have increased and selling u-joints and brackett we cant use.Glad to hear you are happy with it.Looking forward to the photos.

  9. I have been to the UTV Rally in Moab and EVERY product on the market preformed excellent. BUY USED RZR ! If I were a gambling man I would put my money on Joyner going OUT of business in the future. There is not a dealer network and after they burned the dealers with the first bankruptcy you would have to be the worst business man in the world to invest your future in Joyner. I have bought nearly a complete second Trooper so I will have parts in the future. If I had it all to do over again, I would have went with a RZR. I am one of the very first owners with a 2008, so have been around since the beginning. Good luck with our choice !

    rocmoc n AZ

ps, retaining valve after the initial sale of a NEW Joyner sucks. In other words, after you purchase and drive it off the showroom floor kiss half you money good buy ! Needless to say this does not sit well with my peers when I am this honest with my opinion. Just remember it is MY opinion but I am not the average Joe on this Topic.

    rocmoc,

your intitled to your opinion,I for one and i'm sure everyone else will not hold that against you.I think no matter what your purchase was you would be out making mods to your satisfaction, that just seems to be the person you are.Thats not to say you would probably(as you did) end up making more on the trooper then what you might have made on a RZR..But with your knowledge you also must have figured when you purchased your trooper it was not a 15 to 20k atv and there would be things you would change.yes its a crap shoot as far as them staying in business. As far as retaining its value, you take that hit no matter what new vehicle you buy.I for one respect your opinion no matter what it is,just glad your not hesitant about saying it.

  10. Well thanks to Rick I have power steering now. Before we started I had to have Super ATV send the right u-joint as they sent two u-joints with spline and shaft ends and for our installation you need one of the u-joint's to have spline ends on both. The u-joint they have is a 24 spline which is actually more like a 32 but they call it a 24 spline. It is because it is split that there are actually on 24 splines you can count. It works so that is all that matters. They had to overnight to me as the kit they originally sent for $560.00 now didn't have it in there. They do send a flat piece of steel that is cut out and drilled for the power head. Won't do much for our installation at all.

Now for the installation. Rick made double of everything he did so all we had to do was bolt up the bracket he made to the firewall and use the steering shaft he put together that ends up sliding over the existing smaller diameter steering shaft. Cut the existing shaft about 4 inches and then slide it over and bolt up the u-joint. Wired everything up and the unit worked fine. No adjustments needed to be made at all except lining up the steering wheel. It made a world of difference on asphalt so I know it will be even that much easier on dirt. Very pleased.

So, thank you Rick for all your help on this one in taking time out of your day to come over and help install and making the brackets and shaft adapter. I owe you.

    Bruhaw,

Your very welcome, glad i could help after the trouble you went through.Anyone ordering the unit from them now should make sure they ask for the correct u-joint,as bruhaw mentioned, they now are selling what they call a "universal kit" for $560 and the brakett as well as the u-joints they sent out with his are useless for our application.

  11. Well I checked fuel pressure, did a block check in case I had a bad head gasket, still can't fix it. Talked with Matt at EJK who told me the fuel controller wouldn't work with the Turbo, not the right MAP. I don't know if the Turbo is the problem but once I get into fourth or fifth gear and try to run at forty mph or more the machine heats up and loses power with or without boost pressure. Any ideas would be great. Robert.

sorry,i didnt realize you had a turbo, you didnt mention it was heating up also.

  12. "Rick!" Can't believe you are charging fellow joyner bud for info!!! " I'm going to call your wife, make sure she gets the money!!""" ur bud,, Quig

The info i give they should be charging me...My info and a dollar wouldnt by you anything at the 99 cent store.

  13. Thanks. Do you know if a Mechanic shop can plug in a scanner and possibly read any problems.

P.S. Wire transfer is in the works, I made it to Ricksb A.K.A. Bill gates correct.

not that i am aware of.I thought i had heard joyner had a special scanner but maybe someone else can chime in that knows for sure.No charge for that info...

  14. I also have tried most everything you did. What was the cost of the new ECU and where did you get it.

P.S what do I owe you for this classified info?

I think it was around $450.00,not real sure because i bought it along with some other parts in one lump sum from an add on craigslist.

P.S. All you can afford plus 100%.Same as the IRS expects...(LOL)

  15. Rick I am having a power loss problem and I saw a post in April of 2010 where you and gates98 were having the same issue. What did you find was the problem, I can't get it solved. Help, I'll pay you money. Robert.

When i get the check in the mail i will tell you(lol).I changed alot of things, fuel filter, checked all conections, pulled fuel tank twice and cleaned out, plugs,an a few more things but ended up changing the ECU and it hasnt happened since. It was only intermittant.

  16. Move full time(well part time) to Lake Havasu.Spend most of winter there and part of summer and rest of year travel this great Nation.Maybe up to a month at a time visiting differant parts of the country.Dont want to live full time in the RV just see as much of the country as possible.

  17. That is a definite possibility, the rc car people do it all the time, but I still think that unless you're hard core user of the front locker, the only place this system had problem, stock is very acceptable. My future plans are to scrutinize the mechanical operation of the sensing mechanism and see if I adjust it to a lighter touch.

I have run my steering with an ampmeter attached and noticed that as I turn from side to side, the amperage varies, but when I hit the end of travel, the current drops to 10 and stays there, this lead me to believe that the mechanics of the sensing system drives the sensor closer to home position and therefore, lower power input when the unit can't move any further in the applied direction. I'll have to look one of these days, other inquiring minds are welcome to pitch in.

Gotta go pick berries with a friend, more later.

    Kinarfi

Thats where one of thoughts was also, I use to race RC Off road buggies and that was common.

  18. I think this was mentioned before but what are the chances of getting more power out of the motor by way of more windings and/or better magnets? Its been a number of years ago but from what i recall where i use to work they would send AC motors out all the time to have them rebuilt when they burnt up or a bearing would go out and while out on some occassions would have them wound with a thicker wire or more windings to make them more powerfull.Like i said i its been a long time.
