Hot start issue on the T2

Anyone have any issues with starting the T2 once it's been running for a while?

Once the engine is hot, I regularly have to turn the key twice to get it going again. Once I do that, it fires up after two or three seconds. It'll never start on the first shot if it's hot. This is nothing major, but it is annoying.

I've tried tapping the gas on the initial shot, but that was a mistake. I'm guessing the mixture is slightly rich on the hot restart because of this, but I'm not sure.

Shop battery chargers at ChromeBattery.com

It turns over just fine both times. I'll explain what I do. I turn the key and the engine turns but doesn't start. I turn the key off for a second or two, then turn the key again. The engine starts fine after that.

I heard of this problem on some Nissans, and Nissan had found no fix - engine starts fine, but only on the second attempt. The manual does have a troubleshoot section for hot start issues, but they speak your language Kinarfi, not mine...

I think I may have the same problem, only cold starts though, but I'm old and retired and have learned that nothing really matters, so if it starts on second or third try, I go play and forget that it didn't start like my GMC that I climb into, put the key in, turn it, it starts, and away I go. I seldom if every crank for more than a second, if it hasn't started by then, I hit the pedal once and try again.

Your fuel pump may not be priming good. Maybe try to turn the key on and let the pump prime then turn the key back off before trying to start and then turn it on again and try to start onlyafter it primes a second time. The pump has a check valve in it to hold the prime pressure. If it is leaking slightly it could cause the problem.

Yeah. I found that doing what Kinarfy does with a cold start helps - pump the gas once before turning the switch. I'll try your idea.

I wouldn't have mentioned it, except that I have the only Joyner in Panama. This means everyone comes and looks, and starting trouble on a hot engine is slightly embarrassing.

Try to hold the throttle to the floor when starting it hot. It could be flooded and holding the pedal all the way down puts it into flood clear mode when starting. In flood clear mode, the computer won't inject any fuel so flooding can clear.

As Lenny mentioned to me over the weekend for every hour of riding he does he spends 8 hours working on it and modifying it. He truly enjoys it that is for sure. I am just appreciative that he shares his knowledge with all of us because it sure makes fixing our problems a helluva lot easier! We lost another contributor in Rocmoc because he sold his. He was at the Jamboree for just a few hours with his new purchase a Dune Buggy with a VW engine. That is no fun to work on compared to a Joyner and you know it Rocmoc. That is just too easy. Our Joyners are what makes us not sleep at night trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with them! You know you want to get another one after seeing us all this weekend. LOL

Going down a 20 deg hill engine is holding UTV back. Then something releases like going into Neutral and makes a loud clacking noise. Have to use brake to slow UTV down. Then once level it shifts back into gear. Have done shift extension does not pop out of gear.

I have a Kubota RTV900 that I am having issues with......it will start up, run about 10-15 seconds then die......turn the key off and wait a few minutes, and the same thing happens. I have gone through all the steps listed to bleed and prime the pump even though I did not run out of fuel....and I cracked the lines on the injector pump and watched fuel pump out as I crank it, so I am not convinced that it is a fuel injector issue......is there a relay that could be causing this? What is the starter timer relay that people have mentioned and what does it do?

We just bought a used 2017 American Landmaster TW450. No hour meter that I can find, so not sure exactly how much it has been used.
The first 2 days we had it, the starter was a little sketchy, but it started after 2-3 tries. Sometimes when turning the key, we would hear a loud metal "clink" sound. Like the starter made contact, but didn't have enough power to turn.
THIS MORNING... Turning the key, we hear a single click sound. That's it. Even with a new battery, the starter is still doing the same thing. Both batteries (old and new) were reading 12.8 volts on volt meter. So I'm wondering what else could be going on? Any ideas on what to look for would be greatly appreciated...
      Thank you!

I was driving the UTV the other day when it simply died. I was using the sprayer which might have drained the 3 year old battery and the stator didn't recharge it. I towed it to my shop and charged the battery . The next morning it cranked first time and I drove it home . I parked it and turned it off . I then tried to crank it and it would only make a weak click noise . I changed the battery and the voltage regulator but it would still only click. I noticed on the digital display that the reverse light was illuminated and would stay illuminated no matter what gear I selected . If I put it in low that light would light but the reverse light stayed on . Same thing for neutral . I shorted the two poles on the starter solenoid with the key on and it cranked up easily and idled fine. You could put it in reverse and it would move backwards  and you could put it in low and it would drive forward. The entire time the reverse light stayed on . I checked the fuses and they all looked good . So lets say I get a new started solenoid . If I replace it and it now starts with the key what is the issue with the reverse light . Is it harmful? What else needs to be done to correct ? Any ideas out there.

We see a lot of the UT400 with shift problems, not going into gear, popping out of gear, grinding etc. There  is a bulletin Im sure everyone has saw about adjusting shift cable.  That dont always fix it.  I went round n round with coleman  on couple units. We are a Coleman warranty repair center"AFS Small Engine Repair "   I told them shift lever does not have enough travel .  No amount of cable adjustment  will increase travel . I  extended lever with piece on flat  iron by 3/4 of inch .  This gave shifter enough travel to properly engage into gear completely .  Last couple units to come in for this Coleman sent me a modified shift lever, with longer travel . Problem solved! Also , heads up if you get any new unit ,,,go over and check it out,  grease  all zerks, check air filter for being in backwards, check wiring harnesses for rubbing on rotating parts,  brake hose  routing , make sure not touching exhaust .  These are just  few of the more common failures I see .
