Just picked up a used trooper. I just noticed that the output cvs on it wigle around and it seems like the output shafts are a little loose. Is this normal? Is this an issue with the shims being done incorrectly? Will a diff upgrade kit fix this problem? How normal is it for the diff seals to leak a little?

The cv hub that slips onto the differential output shafts is loose on all of the Troopers. The upgrade kit does not change this nor does it include seals. The seals should not leak but a little leaking won't hurt anything as long as you watch the oil level and don't let it run low. If you put in the diff upgrade kit, which is advised, I would replace the seals at the same time. The seals are available at any power transmission or industrial supply store. If you buy the upgrade kits directly form me through this forum, They are $90 per kit including shipping. On Ebay they are $99.99 plus shipping. The kit corrects internal looseness as well as well as ring and pinion mis- alignment along with strenghting the bolted connection of the ring gear which often fails.. As far as the CV hub being loose on the output shaft, I'm working on a fix for this. It doesn't seem to be causing any problems that have been apparent to anyone yet but I just don't like the looseness and it has got to be making some noise. I'll keep the forum updated on that effort. If I offer it as an upgrade, it will be an exchange program, your hubs for modified ones. That is provided your hubs are in good condition and don't have worn or damaged ball slots nor bad spleens.

Well thats good to know Lenny any improvement is better!! Any idea on when the diff kits maybe ready?? I got a ?? for you are the joints on the bottom of the rear shocks servicable I got a little play in mine.

The shocks bottom joint is not serviceable. Don't know about the Troopers with the newer shocks but my guess is they are not serviceable either.

Hey Lenny think I will go ahead and order a kit for the rear from you if you want to put me on your list. Also do you know what size the seals are or do you have a part number for them so I can order them and have them ready before I pull the diff apart? Thanks.

What I was hoping you would do is make a concave/vez mold to press some new spherical washers for us. I'd do it, but I'm faaarrrrr from my old tool and die shop. If you want to know how to make your manual lathe do a perfect convex or concave surface, PM me. I'm pretty sure I got the spherical radius right, just in case I had a chance to do it myself...

I know how to make the dies ok. What is the radius, ID, OD and how thick are the washers. It wouldn't really be that hard to do. Getting the final ID and OD correct after pressing might be a bit tricky. I'll consider it after I get caught up a bit.

Near as I can measure, the rad is 39mm measured to the outside of the spherical surface. It sounds odd, as I suspect it's actually 40 but 40 didn't work. I would suggest using the same shim stock you use for your diff shim kits for the material - otherwise it'll end up the same scored mess. I'm sure you'll need to play around to get surfaces to match.

MTL is .025 thk.

I'm curious - what method do you use to get the correct rad on a manual lathe?

I use a radius cutter. The one I'm using is like a Letter 'E'. It sets upright just like it is written (actually facing left if you know what I'm saying) and pivots at the end of the top horzontal leg and bottom horizontal leg. The cutter extends out from the middle of the vertical leg and is adjustable in or out to past the top and bottom ends for concave and before for convex. The whole assembly mounts in the tool holder slot on the crossfeed table. Bought the tool about 35 years ago and even though I don't use it often, it saves the day every once in a while. I have actually made my own ball joints once with it.

      So I have a Bennche Bighorn 500 that I bought used a couple years ago. Was working fine until this winter when I was plowing and I think it drained the battery. And had a difficult time starting and staying running. Idle seamed really low, and would only stay running if I pushed on the throttle. So I changed the battery, and the acm valve, fuel filter and spark plug it will start up and surgery to 3k rpm but comes back down and dies, unless I give it throttle. I am getting fairly good amount of fuel from fuel pump.  It does spit at stutter right before it dies. What should I try next?

      Hope I posted this in the right place. Looking for the left side shaft carrier where the rear bearings go for an 1100cc sand viper, I understand an 800 cc carrier will also work. I need the old style two bearing with the spacer in the middle, the new style with just the one wide bearing wont work. If anybody has one I'll buy it right away. my email is [email protected]

      All mid 2008 through 2014 Polaris RZR 800 series have a big problem with the rear differential pinion nut backing off, allowing the pinion gear to shoot into the rear differential, destroying the rear differential. This has happened with machines with as little as less than 100 miles on them! Reports indicate that there are no problems, nor warnings, until the rear differential grenades, locking the rear axles solid! This requires the machine to be lifted onto a trailer, to be transported for rear differential replacement, as it destroys the case. After failure, rear differential replacement can be quite expensive: labor alone can run from $800-$1200 and a new OEM Spicer rear diff, if you can find one, can run from $1700-$2500! So, if you own any Polaris RZR 800 series between the years of 2008-2014, I recommend that you do this repair before further use of your machine. personally, I have grounded my machine until it can be done. Please check the online post for your own awareness.

      I am about 6 months in to owning my 520. It is used mainly to run back and forth to our barn and shop. Occasionally, I run it up and down a few fairly steep hills on the property. One day, as I was going up one of the hills, the motor started sputtering and a tremendous amount of smoke was coming out of the exhaust. I was near the top and it made it (sputtering) up. Once back on the flat, I made it home. I loaded it on the trailer and took it back to the dealer. They said they checked everything out and found no issues. Over the next month or so, I only had occasion to go up hills once or twice with no issue. Then one day, again as I was going up a hill, the engine sputtered, giant plume of white smoke and then the engine died. 30 seconds later, started up and made it to the top. Repeated the route (down and up) and the same thing happened again. Called the dealer and their head of service said he would come out and wanted to see it first hand. He came out a few days later and repeated the route several time and it never happened with him in it. I had videoed the whole thing on one of the times it happened to me, but since it happens intermittently, could not produce it when he was here. I told him that I had checked the temperature, the oil level and the antifreeze level after each occurrence and they were normal. I asked him to call Kubota and ask what the possibilities were and that I am not fond of it dying on the hill and blowing the smoke and I didn't want to wait until something catastrophic happened to figure it out. When I followed up, they had no answers (which doesn't exactly please me). Any ideas? The attached photo was the start of the smoking. Didn't know how to upload the video of the whole thing, but it fogged the whole area.

      I bought this SxS brand new.  A couple of years after I bought it, I became disabled.  Thus it has only 47 miles and around 16 hours of use.  I have no need to keep the SxS.  I am in Foley, Alabama.  It is very hard for me to get in out of the Challenger.  I would like to sell the set, 2019 Challenger 400, trailer and uninstalled winch (this was bought brand new as well, someone was supposed to help this newbie install and we never got around to doing this). I want  $6500 for the whole set OBO (Serious offers only).
