  1. So what happened any way how did u loose compression how many miles

if it was thr rings i would say because back at the start of April i noticed a hose clamp had come off the hose at the throttle body and there was dust in my intake. But with the leak down test it appears to ba an exhaust valve and not sure how that happened. I only have about 1700 miles on it.

  2. try and answer all at once.

    Lenny,

No it was with exhaust manifold on. I hate the thought of messing with the shims from all i have heard from you guys.

    goindeep,

yes i made sure it was tight. I did compression test on all cylinders two or three times. On the leak down test i made sure it was at tdc each time i did it.

    nocturnalsixer,

yes, i also made sure throttle was wide open.

whats puzzleing me is the #4 now.

  3. Okay, a bit puzzled now. I did a leak down test last night. I found that on #3 i have air coming from exhaust and nowhere else so that tells me exhaust valve. On #4 which on compression test showed 120 lbs same as #3 i could not hear any air coming out anywhere. I checked exhaaust, intake, oil fill on valve cover, and radiator for bubbles. In fact pressure was building up so much it started leaking air from fitting going into spark plug hole. Just to make sure i repeated 4 times with same results. Any thoughts?

  4. Lol ya I looked at your wife's set up seems to be a little better than mine but very similar lol my mother inlaw has been a seemstress for years and now she redoes boats as a side hobby and did my enclosure!!!

You want to trade mother in law's ? in fact even if yours couldnt sew i would trade ? better yet i will just give you mine....(LOL)

  5. Chesh every time I like my trooper I see more discouraging reports who wants to buy it

with the problems i still would not sell mine for that reason. It may not be the best looking model out there but i see all the other brands being towed in and broke down all the time.

  6. hey I just saw this were exactly are you guys seeing this twist on the swing arm

Mine appears to start where the swing arm kind of turns out towards the wheel mount, roughly half way between the shock mount and the end of the swing arm.

  7. I suspect that he top of the wheel leans in. I would try using a long leverage bar or big piece of pipe.. Some how hook it, clamp it, stick it thru, even weld it or what ever works to get a good hold of the back of the swing arm so you can push down, with lots of friends, to twist the swing arm back in place. Leave the swing arm mounted to the Trooper and put a jack stand under the outside of the frame just ahead of the swing arms pivot point. I'm thinking like a 8 to 10 foot long piece of 3" pipe or tubing. You should be able to do it cold. Then again, you drive pretty fast so it was probably red hot when you twisted it.

    Lenny

I tried almost exactly that. I put the jack stand under the swing arm at the point it looks like the tweek starts with the wheel off. I have a 35 year old heavy duty floor jack and the jack handle is about 5' long and i tried using that as leverage to twist it back. I jumped on it and all that happened was it kept lifting the trooper up. Handle never bent.

Lenny, what do you mean i drive fast????? when ive been out with you guys all of you have to run with your emergency brake on just so i wont fall too far back out of site...(lol)

  8. Yes you can twist it back. What you want to do in move the lower shock mount as close to the tire as possible. This will reduce the induced torsion thats trying to twist the swing arm a lot. Its the this torsion that is damaging the swing arm. I also boxed mine a long time ago. The bottom needs to get closed up and weld all the boxing sheet metal with continous welds. The problem that shows up after boxing the swing arm is that now the stress is consentrated on the swings arms pivot end. On mine, one of the pivot sleeves broke completely off so I ended up reinforcing the end considerably. Then with all that solid, the stress moved to the frame tube that hold the tabs that the swing arm pivot bolts go thru. I tore that piece of tube comletely off too at the last jamboree. Now that is all reinforced too and finally its fixed for good. I can beat the daylights out of it and nothing moves any more. Just ask Rocmoc, he rode with me thru the woopde doos. I'm not nice with mine. You know its got to be tough when your running woopde doos at speed and you hit one that it bigger then the rest. It starts to slam things hard, real hard but it takes it.

    Lenny

i get the moving mounts out close to tire and boxing it in.But got to take the tweek out first right? only way i can think of is by heating it up and bending it back, any thoughts?

  9. MIne is tweeked real bad ...just going to tweek it bad then I am going to Box It. Mine looks like this \ on Pass side..LOL No jumping or anything.. It seems they will all do this and this is the fix....Just search on here. Cant remember who did theirs and posted pics......

yea i know its happened to others. One fix to help prevent it is to relocate the shock mounts out towards the end of the swing arm but of course i did not do that.

  10. Well after 5 months of sitting in my trailer since my last trip out with the Trooper last month i pulled her out into the garage where she has been sitting untouched.I finally got to checking her out for my next trip(not sure when). I notice the right rear wheel just wasnt looking right(kind of angeled) so i started checking it out and found the swing arm tweeked a bit. Now i need to replace it. Just wondering if anyone by chance happens to have one they want to sell.

    Thanks,

  11. Check out the difference between a Trooper tranny and a Viper tranny, look the the 2nd photo above and compare to this one, My guess is that it gears the Trooper up because of our differential between the wheels on Troopers that the Viper does not have. Just a guess, any one know for sure what the extra gears are for?

    Kinarfi

Viper only has 4 gears and trooper has 5th?

  12. I quess California has a new law that takes effect in January prohibiting the additional rear seat on any utv of 1000cc or less. They figure there were too many injuries involving these utv's where people added the rear seat in the back to make them four seaters. Originally they also had included that all passengers in utv's must be able to touch the floor board with their feet while seated with back against rear of seat but they took that part out. That is going to effect many owners from what i have seen.

  13. Ok, this deviates a little from the thread topic but I thought I would try continuing it here and see if I get any traction.

Like I mentioned in the beginning, I'm planning to make my first trip to the dunes. Glamis sand dunes to be exact. What sites are best for tent camping vs trailer camping? can you ride from north end to south end? Any pointers or tips in general are greatly appreciated! I am meeting up with in-laws from LA who are driving down and I want to show them a good time, know as much about this ahead of time that I can.

There are a few others that can answer better then I about it but i have only driven past it and from what i saw there are plenty good open areas where you can do both. When are you going there?

  14. It is with great regret that I announce I am no longer employed with Joyner USA Inc., I will not be on the UTV Board nearly as often as I have been. And please do not let this hinder your dealings with Joyner, we are seperating on good terms, and I wish nothing but the best of success for them. After all, Kris and JD ARE personal friends of mine.

I sure hope your departure had nothing to do with the striper pole and disco light ideas for the new troopers.(LOL) All kidding aside good luck to you, hope things work out.

  15. Mainly in the brainstorming stage, but here is what we have discussed....

    1-Approx 400-500lbs lighter...using various modifications

2-Relocate the Radiator to the Front

3-New Storage opening in front of the Box under the seats

4-Acheive 14-16 inches of Travel in the Front and Rear

    5-Lowering the cage

    6-Stripper Pole attachment

    7-Disco Light

We are going after the 1000cc and larger UTV/ROV market with the Trooper....

    Other Things being discussed......

    1100cc Renegade 2 and 4 Seater

    400cc-500cc Sand Viper

Keep in mind, these are all just idea's....if you have any input...please email [email protected]

Yes one suggestion, On number 6 the pole should come fully equiped....(LOL)
