  1. I imagine we have all considered having a windshield on our Trooper and many have installed them. I think the use of plastics has been shown to be a bad idea with scratches and dust. I've not really wanted a permanent windshield, but there are times when the bugs, dust, gravel and rocks in the face make me wish I had something to protect me. On one of my outing to Fairview Canyon, Fairview, Utah, I saw this antique car with a most unique windshield, it was an oval piece of glass on a gold colored metal arm coming up off the dash about 12” in front of the driver, never have been able to find a photo of it, but here’s what I have in mind to make something similar, storable, and easily installed and remove.

This is an idea in the making, and I welcome any ideas and suggestions and comments. My plan is to get some safety glass and either have some holes drilled into the corners or glue some attach points on the edges, then suspend it from the roll bar with something like bungy cord and stainless coated cable and hold it in position with bungy cords to the side posts.

Any way here’s a prototype photo.

It would seem if you suspend with cable or bungy cords it would be bounceing all around. If going with your idea i would make some stationary points to attach it too that would allow easy removal.

  2. Yeah I am not paying 1200.00 for power steering......I will keep everyone updated...Whats the worst?...I already don't have power steering. LOL

do a search on here. about 6 or 7 of us got it for $400.00 but we had to make the bracket and modify the steering shaft. Last i heard the price was up to $600 but not sure.

  3. I am just posting this as an FYI for those who may have purchased SuperATV's powersteering unit. From what I understand it has a thermal shutdown switch. If it over heats it will shut off until it cools down. Well, I had this happen to me last weekend. It happened right after I bottomed out really hard. I bottomed out so hard I figured I had broken the unit especially when it didn't come on after driving for several miles.

So, I parked it and looked for a severed wire or a disconnected wire--nothing. I ate lunch and it was back working again. I figured it would shut off after hitting alot of bumps in a short amount of time, but mine shut off from a single hard impact.

Let me tell you, after driving with powersteering and going back to manual...I can't even believe I drove this thing with out runnning into a tree before. It was back to holding on to the steering wheel with two hands and quickly shifting, so I could put my hands back on the steering wheel. If you ride in rocky terrain it will be the single best upgrade you make. I would rate it even before suspension.

I also agree that this was a great investment. Bad part about it though is not getting the upper body workout.(LOL)

  4. Ok, just the basics:

    On 2x4 everything is fine.

Once I put it into 4x4, everything goes well for about 1 mile, then bang like a hammer strike on metal. This repeats itself, worse on paved roads, less on rocks. It sounds like it's in the front, but I can't really tell.

At one time, the buggy was pulling to the right just before the bang, but now I get nothing. Figured it was the bolt holding the lower A arm not clamping properly.

I've shimmed both diffs with Lenny's kits. I've raised the rear and checked for anything odd. Did same for front. Turn one wheel, opposite wheel turns in opposite direction as it should. Both front band back diffs feel fine.

Checked alignment, and it checks out ok.

Suspicious it might be front diff cus it only happens on 4x4, but don't know.

    Any ideas?

just a thought but maybe when shifting into 4x4 its not going in all the way and after driving a distance it pops in. Did it do it before the upgrade?

  5. Steve, it's near impossible to reach you - both by phone, and your deactivated email. I have a list myself of things I want, but...

When you list the parts on ebay, can you send us a link?

You have to consider his original post that he went out of business was over two years ago.

  6. I recently purchased a 2011 Joyner Trooper with 36 miles on it. The previous owner bought it in Arlington, Texas then it just sat there for 8 months. I plan on using it on my deer lease here in East Texas and also when I go to West Texas hunting. So far I love it. Lots of power and will try to liscense it for the road so I can cruise the beach.

Welcome to the forum.Nice looking trooper.

  7. I'm thinking I'm not too into the tube trunk thing above the engine on the trooper so I'm considering building a pick up box for the trooper something like the polaris ranger have. I think it would make a unique trooper what do you guys think?

    Have it been done?

yes it has. There was one on craigslist not to long ago. They had a box off a commando on it.

  8. All I have been reading but not finding what is happening to me yet. I have been fighting the same problem for months now.

The t-4 will flat out go at times then it will loose power down to 500 rpms or so for 5-15 seconds then you hear it regain the rpms and off I go again.

I have completely cleaned the gas tank, repositioned the filter changed the filter numerous times. Added the a higher pressure Bosch pump.

I thought it was a dirty tank with debris getting in the way since when I took my foot off the gas it would recover in a few seconds 5-15.

I read the post about the IAC but most of them were about over revs. I thought maybe it was the computer protecting itself, if too high of revs.

I'm too the point just just throw this engine out and put a VW in it.

Not sure if you came across this topic http://www.utvboard.com/topic/1423-power-loss/page__hl__%2Bloss+%2Bof+%2Bpower__fromsearch__1 but it sounds like the problems you are having is very close to the same as what i was having. I checked everthing and like you pulled the tank a couple times as well as new fuel filter, air filter fuel lines regulator, checked all wire connections and finally replaced the computer and have not had the issue since.Too bad your not close to someone with a trooper to switch them out just to see if that is it.

  9. Diff kits will be available for shipping on this coming Monday. All those that wanted kits will be sent a PM. Thanks for the support. Thats what encouraged me to go ahead and make up another batch. The shocks bottom joint is not serviceable. Don't know about the Troopers with the newer shocks but my guess is they are not serviceable either.

    Lenny

got mine today, thank you lenny

  10. Hey Bruce, Contact http://www.klung-motor.com/ and see if they can get the pinion gear you need. Keep in mind that you only need the pinion gear and not the ring gear. You can use your existing ring gear as they are the same for the Trooper and the Renegade. Your running the T4 which is heavier then the T2. Rocmoc ran the 31" tires for a long time without problems. There is a bit of a power loss but I think that your big tires though nice tires, take a little more power then the ones Rocmoc ran. Your tires are quite agressive. Still up for a Fall ride?

    Lenny

I too run the 30" tires on my t-4 and have not noticed enough of a difference to change back. I think the extra ground clearence is well worth what little low end power i may have lost.Maybe what the difference in yours is im running 30x 9.50x 15 on all four corners.

  11. Hey guys! Question for you...Does all the years that they made troopers need upgraded rears ? Or is there a year when they started doing them right ? Mine is a 09 model.

Thanks and does anyone know what timing belt to use ?

    How about a Thermostat ?

I have an 09 and it had what joyner called the upgrade,no shims to correct the play just different bolts. I would do the lenny upgrade if i were you. Cant help with the belt or thermostat.

  12. Good, those are some of things I have noticed as well. The I will be purchasing has the light bab, spare tire and 3500# winch for $11,300 which is a white one, the white looks little better than some of the choices. Thanks

    Nater,

Fill in your profile so we know where your located. Might help with pricing that way. Have seen 2012 going for as low as $8,900.
