Have been looking at purchaseing my first UTV. Seems like a lot of the lower entry type models only have one locking diff. Some brands are front lock only and others have rear lock only. Is one a better option?

This is just a quick summary of what I've read that drove my decision to buy a 4WD with locking diffs both front & rear.  I also decided against the CVT in favor of a clutch and 5-speed transmission (similar to a car).  If you're looking for a 2WD UTV, then it won't make much difference.  I wouldn't consider taking one of these into a situation where I might need a locking diff.  I personally would want a 4WD with both front & rear locking diffs independently selectable.  I want to have the option of having all four wheels available to get me out of trouble.  But even 4WD with full lockers won't guarantee anything.   Most prefer rear lockers because lockers on the steering axle leaves a lot to be desired on soft sand or dirt (tends to not go in the direction you want to go).

Front lockers are on UTVs that are FWD; rear lockers are on UTVs that are RWD.  Again, it's a matter of preference whether you want FWD or RWD.  Most are RWD.  Unlike cars, I don't know of any FWD UTVs.

A locking differential works best if it's on the axle that bears the most weight. If you've got the option for both, and they lock independent of each other. Each having it's own switch, that'd probably be best. Otherwise go with the weight thing. That would maximize the traction.

I have a 2020 800 sx with about 16 hours on it.  From day one I have heard a clunking noise from the front end going over bumps.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Also this past weekend while out riding I heard a noise that sounded like the dump bed bounced three or four different times, again has anyone experienced anything like that.  Thanks, gary

If anyone is looking for the cheapest UTV, with dump bed, winch, roof and windshield, I just noticed that lowes has the axis 500/ hisun UTV on sale for 4500 (at least in my area) They are $4500. ($9000 original). I have one - they have some issues, but nothing catastrophic. My biggest complaint is that it is under powered. Also the winch failed. They are still selling an extended warranty - which I would take, just in case. My guess is lowes wants them gone.

So I'm interested in a side by side of some sort.
Not sure what make/model to even look at.

I would plan on riding on trails with very rough rocky terrain and plenty of mud. Maybe sand once in a long while. I like LOTS of power and drive fast, but also like a trail that is a challenge to get through. I think 4x4 would be a must. I like the idea of a supercharged engine, but I have never owned one, and would be a little concerned about long term reliability or expensive difficult engine repairs. If anyone knows quads, my favorite was the 2008 Polaris Outlaw 525 IRS. For dirt bikes, I raced a 2008 KTM 450 SX-F. So that gives you an idea of what type of off road stuff I liked.
I don't like "utility quads" or "trail bikes". And likewise, I dont want a turd UTV. I want something that looks awesome and performs awesome. 2 seater with some cargo capacity at the minimum.
