Front Ball Joints need checking

Recommended Posts

We discovered the problem the hard way, while out on a ride We were able to limp home..

The ball joint popped out of the stub axle, also the axle fell out.

The chintzy bolt was as tight as it could possibly be.

Upon bolt removal and inspection, the threads of the bolt were worn off where the ball joint notch rubs.

I am going to replace all with the 1/2-20 grade 8 bolts and reseat the bushing in the helms bolt .

The dissambled one on the drill press, the others, in place.

This is a very dangerous problem that can't be discovered just by "nutting and bolting" the trooper on a regular basis.

I strongly advise everyone to remove the bolts and inspect them for wear and replace as necessary.

Thanks Lenny for the very good explaination of this fix.

For those who didn't listen to me, Listen to Ernie, I've preached changing those bolts several times.

Ernie, When you're done, be sure and cut off any bolt sticking out past the nut, it will limit your turning some.

I have been searching and can't find much info on these units. Pretty surprising as every other thing I own I find a lot of info on. Researching for tech info and such it's like no one owns any of these yet I see them everywhere.

Onto the next problem, everything has been replaced in the charging system except the Flywheel Rotor, I have it torn apart all the way down to said rotor, but it is suggested that a specific puller is required, and a compatible rotor seems virtually impossible to find.  I can find many like it, but this one is mine scenario for those that get the reference.  For all I know I have the last Massimo Buck 400S on the planet and will never find another part again, but who knows.  Any ideas, help or otherwise that anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

Hope I posted this in the right place. Looking for the left side shaft carrier where the rear bearings go for an 1100cc sand viper, I understand an 800 cc carrier will also work. I need the old style two bearing with the spacer in the middle, the new style with just the one wide bearing wont work. If anybody has one I'll buy it right away. my email is [email protected]
