  1. the long side of the tooth would be ))) the right side of )) The short side, the side of the gear being used in reverse ))) left side. You are making me mad with how well you do pictures
  2. The teeth on the ring gear are curved. so if you picture yourself making a turn in the road the inside lane is shorter than the outside lane. The outside is curve of the tooth is longer. Sorta like water on a dam, it is curved for strength, the water bares on the long side of the dam.
  3. When ordering shocks you have to know the pivot points on the suspension, un suspended weight, what the shock ratio is holdong up the car on the arm. there are also some other stuff to consider. I amgoing to try and mount something this week-end. let you know how it works.
  4. Do not want to take your money, On 4 wheel drive vehicles the ring and pion gears are cut oppisite so that you are always loading the long side of the tooth on the gears. We had better hope that they did it on our troopers. the rear diff is correct, i have had one apart.
  5. One problem to that deal, I hope you like going backwards because you will have 5 gears back-wards and 1 gear forward. The drive lines are going into the diffs oppisite ways so you will be going the oppisite way.
  6. You know what, i think the fuel millage went upwith the cat out. The new fuel tank pick-up worked great. I had about 20 jeeps and i dont know how many other utvs watch me go up the side of this mountain. These things are like a billy goat on hard pact. no one else tried going up the hill.
  7. still trying to get time to weigh the trooper, noticed in the shoot out that they said the trooper weighed in at around 1800 lbs, dam this thing needs to go on a diet. I am thinking of running a 400 ontop of a 550 for the spring rates on the rear corners. Do not want to go much bigger on the springs or they will be to much for the shocks, Probably go up to 600, do not think i would go any higher than that. Let you know what i end up doing.
  8. I have a new muffler for mine, just have not had time to put it on. This last week-end while camping i looked at the cat and said what the hell. Took a socket stuck it on the end of a extension and let the hammer rip. Knocked the cat out with the cat still on the engine. It seemed to help the top end, had the engine against the rev limiter in high gear. It is louder now, but i think i might just put a baffle in the cat so it looks stock . It did not hurt the bottom-end, I think it made it better, but it is hard to tell because of the sound of the engine.
  9. You have the info, call a artic cat dealer, have them count the teeth and splines, if it all sound the same have him ship it to you withthe understanding if it is the wrong part you can send it back, that way you would only be out shipping charges if it where wrong.
  10. Rocmoc, the 2.0 have a smaller shaft than stock, plus the valve body and tube are bigger. The shocks probably hold twice the amount of oil than stock. With the shaft size being smaller more oil has to move through the ports on rebound. I am shure you know about this , just saying for others so they know. I was amaazed at how much the stock spring is compressed on the stock shock, over 2 inches, no wonder the springs are ripping the shock apart. After looking at the stock shock i am very excited to see how we do with after market shocks. Like i said when i get back i will weigh the trooper and go from there on the springs, i will go with the duall rate.
  11. The shocks i have are 2.0 with no springs. Tried putting the stock springs on tonight, they are to small in diamenter, you could run them but they would ruin the threads on the shock. The shocks have all the hardware for dual rate springs. I also noted at the trooper store today that they have change the location of the rear shock mounts a little bit on the new troopers. They also have a recess in the dash to put things. Any way i am going to wait untill i get back from this trip to mount the shocks. I did notice that when i had the spring off the old shock that there is hardley any rebound in the shock and the compression is pretty stiff. From what i have done with shocks i see where shocks on the trooper will make a huge difference. Rocmoc, i feel that the 2.0 will be more than what we need, i do not see where we need the reiviours either. You would have to beat this shock to death. Also these shocks are lighter than stock and not running resiviours helps also. I really want to put the trooper on a diet. I guess now i will have to get weights so i can get the new springs.
  12. Ordered 2 fox shocks for the rear last night. they are 23.35 inches long with a 8.50 inch stroke. I should be able to pick them up today. I am getting them for less than 200 apiece. Going to superstition this week-end so i should be able to give you a report on how different it feels.
  13. When i was a kid i rode my sisters horse to a freinds house. On the way back it knew it was going home so he took his own route through a grove off trees, knock me of the horse, banged my shoulder up pretty bad. Do you guys know some Jack-ass that i can call, I should have been able to file a lawsuit against God. No labels, no roll cage, no side doors, no book to read, nothing telling how to make it go, stop, or turn which i know one of those would have helped me stay on the horse.
  14. Count me in, just talked to the wife and she is looking forward to going. We will stay longer thab 2 days, maybe a week. let me know the best days. Do you have to worry about salt or are you ok as long as you stay of the wet sand.
  15. Just had mine apart to look at it when i was redoing the back. Noticed that all the bolts on mine where saftey wired.
  16. glad to have you on board, posted some pictures of my fuel tank under your pictures today, hope you don"t mind
  17. I put the shock back in the same spot, I do not want to change anything untill i get a quaility shock.
  18. Finished relocating the rear diff. the diff is now even withthe bottom of the frame. I removed the lower shock mount and put a suport across so that the shock mount was leval. (my shock mounts where giving up) I put them back in the same spot, but raised them about 3/8 of a inch. Took the rear diff apart to see the inside, i was surprised to see that it is actually a pretty good part. The pion gear has alot of teeth so you are ingageing more that one tooth into the ring geaar. It has roller bearing on both sides of the ring gear carrier. The locker works with a slide colar. There are no gaskets, they use o-rings in the case halfs. The outer seals on the axle shafts could be replaced with out taking the case out of the car. The fuel tank is also back in the trooper. It has a new sump in the middle of the tank on the bottom. Both suction and return are mounted there. It is in a baffled area so that the return is feeding the suction when you are in a bad spot. One thing i noticed after i got everything back together on the fuel system is that it would not prime its self untill i bleed the suction line, then it picked the fuel right up. My pump is laying flat and i am wondering if it needs to be stood up so the air gets out. I have pictures of all of this and will get it mounted.
  19. Try adding more air preasure to the front and taking a little out of the rear. Look at your shocks and make sure the are not leaking.
  20. The big horn tires have a softer sidewall, so it could be the front -end is sucking the bump up alot better.
  21. When you say it would not start, do you mean it would not turn over, or would it turn over but not start with the starter.
  22. Sounds like my trooper when i was running out of fuel. My pick-ups used to be in the back of the tank so this would happen after going down hill. When you say dumping the clutch, i asume you had to push it awhile to get it started. when the pump becomes un-primed the pump only works momentarly and then shuts of because there is no preasure, so you end up just turning the key on and off trying to get fuel preasure. Trust me this can be a pain in the butt. I ended up preasuring the tank by blowing in it with my mouth while my son turned the key on and off. So if you have been on a ride where you are down on fuel you can aireate the pump. I have done this with my tank half full. Check and make sure you don't have any kinks in your fuel line, you can also check your fuel filter. Rember on fuel injected engines they have alot of fuel flow because off the return fuel line so the filter has to be very free when you check by blowing through it with your mouth, it is a good idea to have a new one to compare it against. If you blow through it with a air gun you will ruin the filter, they are very fine so you don't plug your injectors .
  23. I have modified the fuel tank under the seat, what i did was put a new sump in the middle of the tank, it is 1 1/2 inch lower with the suction and return line returning to it. Drilled 6 3/4" holes in the tank where the sump is, the sump is 8" x 8". One thing that i noticed is that the two rear mounts hold all the weigth of the tank so i moved those mounts rearward as far back on the tank as i could. I will take some pictures and figure out how to show them to you guys. Has anybody had a rear-end apart, it is no problem doing it since i have it out, just wondering if i should take it apart and have a look.
  24. I have not had any brake problems , just something i noticed when i was nut and bolting, just curious why they have the brakes plimb the way they do.
