  1. IMHO, the ring & pinion are too small dia for continuous use at high speed (and my GUESS would be above 40 mph) and both front & rear diffs will be turning. Older Jeeps had/have the same problem with small dia wheels & tires used with low diff gear ratios, burns up the bearings. My off-road Jeep has 4:88 gears with 33" tires and will be trailered. My Jeep pulled behind the Motorhome has 3:73 gears with 30" tires and I still don't/won't pull over 60 mph. I am sure someone else will jump in. Better to get a flat trailer for the Trooper and double pull like Lenny does. Oh by the way, still have my trailer used for the Trooper. It is for sale but will be listing it this week with the sandrail on the local Craigslist. I would sale it without the sandrail. Sidenote for friends who have been out with us when we used the sandrail, Forgot the better 3/4 gets motion sickness when I bought it and that is was happened within minutes of first time out. If I can't take my best buddy, then the sandrail goes. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  2. We are gong to Baja, down to La Paz, early spring. If you wish to tag along, you are welcome. Just PM. We will travel pretty quickly to La Paz to seek out the warmer weather and than work our way back North as it warms. We have friends we will be visiting along the way and I know you would be welcome, the RVer & internet friend thing. Have been to Mexico many times with the RV so know the routine. We are taking a Jeep to do day trips and off-roading. UTV do very well in Mexico. In general less expensive trip than the USA but Mexican Insurance is required.   5. Yup, I said Jeeps. I picked up a 30 year barn find. Stored 30 years in a Nebraska barn after grandpa passed away (not my grandpa). Got it for a very good price but I had to go get it. Round trip 2800 miles in three days & two nights. A 1970 Jeep CJ5 with V6, 3sp & highway gears. Completely stock and will stay that way. This is the one I will flat tow (towbar) behind the Motorhome. Have her running, rebuilding the brakes & replacing all the stuff that could fail after sitting for 30 years. Mechanically will be done this week. Then I start the body. Coming from NE, grandpa drove it in the snow so there is rust. Floors & floor braces are gone. Great thing about owning a Jeep is the new panels came via UPS last Tues. Cost were very fair, would have cost more to make them myself. Will take a week (only work about 4 hours / day at this stage in life) to repair the body. Will primer and run her this winter on our winter trips. Will finish next summer. Taking the soft top off the '69. The other one, 1969 Jeep CJ5, has turned into a serious off-road build. Lockers front & rear, big tires & rims, disc brakes, electric dual fans, headers, rollcage, 4:88 gears, overdrive & more. Setup to be towed with a towbar but will trailer to the play sites incase I BREAK it, LOL! Just had the trans & transfer case completely rebuilt and am now replacing the floor pedals with hanging pedals so I can use bigger master cylinders and a slave on the clutch.   10. The dune pass is different from the CA non-resident pass. As I said before you have to have the AZ off-road sticker or be street license to not be required to purchase the CA non-resident pass. The Dune Pass is a different and required pass to play in the dunes. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  11. You have to have a Dunes permit, cost about $50. You also have to have your Arizona Off-road permit or license for the Street. All the info can be found by searching the ridingarizona.com site. There are rangers checking all the time at the dunes. There are limited number of sites with hookups. Most people dry camp / boondock. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  12. This is the trend on the Net. Offer a free service, get your info / posts and start charging for the service after your data / post are uploaded. Beware of Cloud services! The same thing is possible. It is just mainframe storage turning your computer into a dumb terminal. This is the way online / before internet worked in the 80's and before the development of big storage in the home / onsite computer. Developement moved away from mainframe storage / Cloud as there was not a way to make money back then. Now there is multi ways of making money with your data besides charging you access once you have uploaded your life. Becareful! One reason I have always encouraged a off-line phone book / person for those of us who wanted to keep in touch. A network to keep in touch the OLD way, LOL! rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  13. Another one bites the dust! Boy, for those of us who have been on here for a few years have seen some Great people come & go.   14. The first 50 as they were called. Steel diamond plate deck / skid plate that is weld to the tube frame. Even under the motor. Steel diamond plate deck weld in the cargo rack / roll bar over the engine. Rear driveline with u-joints, no CV joints. The smaller rotors. Gas tank mounted in the front under the hood near the steering. No dust covers on the steering rack. Storage area under the passenger seat. The biggies easy to notice would be the gas tank & weld skid plate. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  15. I watched a comparison of the Wildcat to the top model of the RZR on the Outdoors Channel. The Wildcat was tops in every area except power. The new hot rod RZR is the FASTEST! Can't go wrong with either. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico

  18. My gauge worked of less than 6 months. Taked to Team Joyner then and the replacement was around $75 & was guaranteed for 30 days. I told them to go jump. A friend made a repair but never really worked correctly. The design sure did not follow the KISS principle. I was in the top it off club. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  19. Good news is I still have money in the budget from the sale of my Troopers. A couple of things I don't work on is Trannys, Transfer Cases & Diffs. I will do everything else. $400 isn't that bad. I got a quote for replacing the front & rear tranny seals and the rear diff seal on a '57 Ford I own. $600 so just adding fluids & drip-pan as everthing works well, just drips. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  20. goindeep or Lenny, about Kinarfi's hub issuse. This maybe the biggest future upgrade / replacement after-market part required. This will effect everyone sooner or later. Someone needs to either make the repair available or produce a replacement hub. Talk to Lenny, he modified his a LONG time ago. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  21. WELL, the handling turned out the be a BIG item/issue. A Jeep requires 4+ degrees of postitve caster to drive correctly. If you have less the steering will wander making it very difficult to stay on even a smooth road. A mod I had planned for the future is reversing the shackles in the front. The spring hangers are reversed where the shackle is in the rear and the pivot / solid mount end is moved to the front. This mod ends up with A LOT of postitive caster. It worked. Completed the mod and for the first time I can drive the Jeep at speed. One more of those little items/issues and I can start enjoying. Oh yeah, two more little items/issues. Turns out I have to rebuild the transfer case, $400. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  22. Some of you will remember I said we ran into some people who were headed out with their UTVs when we spent the night in Price, UT. They were headed South of Price and I believe I have found where they were headed. This is being added to our ride list. It is The Wedge in San Rafael Valley also called the Little Grand Canyon.   23. IMHO, Use the good stuff, in the long run it is always the best way to go & cheaper. If there are any failures customers will blame you and will effect the reputation of your products. EVEN if they said go with the cheap stuff. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
