Two gas company servicemen, a senior training supervisor and a young trainee, were out checking meters in a suburban neighborhood. They parked their truck at the end of the alley and worked their way to the other end. At the last house, a woman looking out her kitchen window watched the two men as the checked her meter. Finishing the meter check, the senior supervisor challenged his younger coworker to a foot race down the alley back to the truck to prove that an older guy could outrun a younger one. As they came running up to the truck, they realized that the lady from the last house was huffing and puffing right behind them. They stopped and asked her was was wrong. some of those briggs V-twin engines have a diode in the kill wires that can go bad and cause that. it can even be insulation wore off on the kill wire going back to the coil and grounding the coil and killing spark, like when you turn the key.

that looks good! i got rid of the rust on mine and and painted it with POR15.

I rebuilt the engine 2 years ago, and installed a new kawasaki flywheel as the old ones teeth were wore pretty bad. and the flywheel can only go on one way as it houses the magnets for the alternator.

That's a good idea for getting them in the right shape, i will definitely do that if they come flat.

the starter spins the engine over with no problem at all, it's just getting it to engage with the flywheel, the outer sleeve of the big + is partly exposed at the starter end, the copper wire looks brand new there. I'll have to get a recording of what it does, it's usually "click, click, click, (finally engages and turns over) and when the starter gear is retracting, something makes a awful noise, sounds like cat stuck in a fan or something. it doesn't sound like gears grinding, but something rubbing or catching in the starter.

got one tire off today then the rain started and it was cow feeding time. I started around 11:00am and got the tire off about 2PM. My uncle has one of those tire bead seaters , i'll try that first before taking to the shop for them to mount it.

there's a tire shop in Willis that mounts them, i got tires for it mounted there before, cant remember how much $ though.

well if it doesn't do it in neutral, then it's not the CVT belt or pulleys as they operate the same regardless of what gear you're in. something internal.

Not sure. They seem to take alot of pride in being an American company on their website so, probably.

Brand new, yes, according to a friend who is a Briggs tech, they make some starters and other electrical components for Briggs and Kohler, and also for the aftermarket seller Stens.

yeah, once you get up to about 12-15 mph, there is a slight whine, but you're right, 500 miles with no whine, then all of the sudden... that's sounds suspect.

It's made by Arrowhead, $80.00, they're not top of the line (Like Denso) but it's better than Wee Fewl Yu from china.

@Mackc yes sir, the engine turns over great once the starter engages it. and spins over fairly easy by hand like any other small engine in this HP range.
